V.R.T on car

Hi guys, I'm heading over to England at the end of the month to buy a car. When I bring it home I have to change it to Irish plates and pay the V.R.T. What documents do I need to have from the purchase of the car to successfully change the plates onto Irish ones. And where do I go from then in terms of taxing and getting a logbook for the car? Has anybody been through this or can anyone provide some info. Cheers:D

Also another thing to note is that if the car is more than 4 years old they wont give it a visual inspection for any extras. Therefore you should buy a 5 year old car loaded with with as many extras as possible and it will only cost you as per quote on the website below https://www.ros.ie/VRTEnquiryServlet/showCarCalculator

In relation to documents , all you need is the V5 form from the dealer/owner. Its pretty straight forward stuff.
A good site for independant info is www.vrt.ie
It gives you good info on how to transfer the money to a person/company in england. I used transfermate.com/ currency.ie and they were great when i was transferring money and they are better value than the banks

HAve you tried pricing up a car over here? All the reports I've been hearing the last few weeks is that there isnt much value over there anymore with the extra Vat and the poor sterling rate.

Just out of sheer curiosity what are you thinking of buying?

Higher VAT doesn't come into play until January

What extra VAT? Check your sources they're talking through their hats and even then it'll only apply to new car sales as VAT on the profit from a second-hand car sale in the UK is the trader's issue, not the purchasers.

The Zetec S is a nicely equipped car and was never available here. Just make sure it has a verifiable service history as these cars are the preferred choice of many sales reps.
