General tip on ordering Four Star Pizza

Yes some may argue that it tastes like cardboard, others fail to see the comparison to a tastier 2€ Goodfellas. However from time to time we all like to (i.e. are lazy enough) order in. At the start of last September in UCC, Four Star were on campus handing out deals, vouchers etc. Now most of them were crap, but there was 2-3 decent ones, mainly being multiple copies of buy one - get one free. They have no expiry date on them and I have used them several times. All I do is say I have a voucher, and the driver has yet to ask for the voucher. Only once have I been challenged on the phone ("the deal is over"), but once I pointed out there was no expiration date, they allowed it. So basically, if you are ordering ridiculously over-priced pizza, at least order it where you get one free thus lessening the rather saucy (:pac:) price a bit.

Just a heads up though, drivers do ask sometime, they should be okay if you don't have one the first time they come but if you get the same driver twice, have one just in case :D but I've only been asked once in quite a while!

True, I suppose it would not hurt to have one in reserve to save yourself embarrasment - they are at the back of Dunnes receipts the odd time too.

just make up the fact you have one on fone. When driver arrives give him a nice tip and he wont insist on the voucher.

I've been told if you order side orders on dominoes site with dips ,then cancel the side orders ,you still get all the dips for free.
    Haven't tried it myself ,don't like dominoes:o

You near always get free dips with dominos. They just stick em in the bag with the drinks...

If I have many mouths to feed, I'll use the Four Star half price offer which seems to run all the time. In a lot of cases, it's cheaper than buy one get one free because orders over €30 are half price and apply to everything but ice cream and drinks. Sometimes they will raise this to €50 but it still works out at €25 or less for 3 large pizza's :D

mizzonis and probably others accept competitors vouchers, so just say 4 star have buy 1 get 1 free, its handy on fridays and saturdays when mizzonis offers dont run especially

That's either a delivery guy being on boards or someone working in the store on here. Shame on you. Also sounds like the delivery chap might be keeping the money for himself. Did he ring the store?

I think he might have been joking. Or else I just ruined my free pizza scam :(:pac:

edit: though actually I have vouchers so sorted :)

Unless you order a small... :p

Dominos have yet to ask me for the voucher when they deliverp. Been saying the same couple of offers to them over the phone for months now :)

A few weeks back, I had people over and we all ended up spending about 70 euro on dominos because we had no vouchers.

The delivery driver told me when I paid him that they're under instructions not to bother asking for the voucher so they never ask for it. So if you call and tell them you have one, they just accept your word.

They are not poor! People who pay full price are being shafted by the big pizza companies. BOGOF and half price pizzas are constantly available, it IS the normal price.

I never get takeaway pizza since I think it is so overpriced compared to other takeaway foods -on an ingredients & overheads basis, if my local chinese made pizza at the same margin as their regular food it would cost ~1/4 what the big boys charge.

I was in a chipper recently, Palm Beach in ballybrack village and they have 12" cheese & tomato pizza with 4 toppings for €9, this was not an offer or anything, but I imagine if dominoes/pizza hut/4-star etc had this pizza at that price they would be screaming at you telling you how good a bargain it was -and some suckers lap it up and believe what they are told. Checking 4 star online a 12" with 4 toppings is €18.50! and I don't even think €9 is that good a price. I got a dirty big fresh cod in the chipper for €5, and I reckon it would cost more for the fish than the pizza ingredients.

All the set 12" pizzas are €8

I didn't mean it literally, im well awear of how overpriced it is ;)

My former employer was engaged in a review of the industry when the sh*t hit the fan in 2008. During late 2008 the statistics were showing that Pizza chains were the only people making money and one of the only industries still growing.

Down to the fact people were not eating in restaurants, instead opting for take home food. You cannot make people cook but they will spend less money.

I live in an area where I cannot get delivery of ANYTHING so cannot opt for any of those deals but nice to know if Im ever staying with a friend. You can always try, if they dont ask then woohoo, if they do then you pay for the pizza you should be paying for anyway.

HaHa this is the best scam. The driver will always look after him/herself. Give a tip and they "forget" to ask for coupon;)
I've done it dozens of times and they just scurry away from the door with the tip - doesn't matter who I order from.

In Sweden which also is pretty expensive country you pay between 4 - 7 Euros for a pizza. It's one size and it's about 15 -16 inches. And usually it's a rstaurang so you can eat there with no extra charge,

It's just madness to pay 20 Euros for dough, cheeze, tomato sauce and few extra toppings. I still do it once a week cause I'm used to eat it ffrom week. Would like to know their margins.

I used to deliver for 4star. The only time I ever asked for a voucher was when I wasn't tipped on an order.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,115 ✭✭✭magicianz

Well if your smart you get two similar pizzas for 10 a piece :o

Pizza Hut have an offer on their coupons for the past while for a solo meal deal of a medium pizza (any kind + 2 toppings), fries and a drink for a tenner with delivery included.

They've never asked for the coupon on delivery and there's no expiry date or anything on it. I reckon those coupon sheets are just un-advertised meal deals used to entice people into thinking they're getting a bargain rather than any sort of special offer. :pac:
