New job after years of unemployment advice!

    Hallo

After three years of unemployment, I have just been offered a job!! :)

Now, I got a P45 from my last employer in June 2007, and gave it all(the form) to my local social welfare office.

I am assuming I will need a P45. How do I go about getting this? Do I really need to trawl back to that temporary employer I was with for 6 weeks and demand a copy? Can I even do that??

Also, have not received a P60 for a couple of years. I have changed address a lot. Is this something I will need or is there somewhere I can get onto now to get a re-issue should I need one?

    Many thanks!

You *should* have got it when you left

as it happens, it's a different tax year so the tax office will be able to help you out. ask the to send a statement of tax credits to your new employer

You already got your P45 from that job, why are you talking about going back to them and "demanding" a copy? Firstly, they already fulfilled their duties by giving it to you at the time, it is your own responsibility to make a copy if you want one.
Second, you don't even need a P45 since you haven't worked yet in this tax year. I suggest having a read of Revenue's website.

Magenta is correct - since you haven't been employed this tax year you do not need a P45.

Well done - hope the job goes well for you. It'll take a bit of adjusting getting back into the full-time swing of things after so long.

Taxwise, you need to fill in a form 12a or a P46 - get either from www.revenue.ie Technically the 12a is from you to Revenue, the 46 is from your employer to revenue. And the 12a lets you give them more detail, so it's possibly a better bet.

Also, about a week after sending the form in, call your local revenue office and make sure they understand exactly how much you've earned since January this year. This bit is important, or you'll pay more tax than you need to this year - but be aware that some next tax year your take-home pay will go down, 'cos you won't have 1/2 a year's tax credits to use up.

Many thanks for all your replies and kind wishes.

    Especially JustMary. Really helpful advice.
I just didn't know where to start with what forms etc I need- have become more familiar in recent years with social welfare forms! lol.
