THE BANDWAGON DUBS

We all know one. We've all sat beside one. The lad who come the start of June is suddenly an expert in everything about the football team. Yet he has or never will be inside Parnell Park

Is anybody else pissed off at these lads who make up a good percentage of the dubs going in to Coke Park tomorrow thinking they know it all? These are the supporters that are booing the team one minute calling the wing forward a w**ker one minute yet telling his mate the same night that he had always backed him to slot over that winning point.

Who else is sick and tired of these supporters. I'm not talking about the hard working dad who brings his kids to the matches in Croke Park every summer, I'm talking about the lad who thinks he knows it all when the last match he ever saw was the previous All-Ireland quarter-final.

Every county has them, not just Dublin. Including Meath.

To be honest if all he saw was last years quarter final... there is no way in hell he'd be back in Croke Park... bandwagon or not. :P

I think its mostly Dubs. I mean i hate when these soccer ans who are mad United and Liverpool fans suddenly think their experts in their knowledge of Gaelic Football when they have never played or seen a club match in their life!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

No not really. Might seem that way due to the bigger crowds the Dubs bring . The other week I attempted to watch a GAA match in a GAA club down the country only to be told the World Cup would be taking precedence.
Didnt seem to be anyone too bothered about catching the football.
But sher its only the Dubs who do that, don't they??

Quite honestly I'm getting sick of this tired nonsense that comes out around this time of year about sunshine supporters, soccer supporters etc. Is the 'Coke park' in your orginal post intentional btw , or an unfortunate typo?

Give it a rest and discuss what goes on on the pitch rather than trotting out the same boring old rubbish.

Im just waiting now for the piece de resistance of Dubs fans delaying games and invading pitches...

It blatantly isn't mostly Dublin. Dublin have a larger number definitely but only because their fanbase in general is larger. The proportion of idiots to decent fans is more or less the same as in any other county. Meath have their share of idiots who crawl out come Championship game despite not having been to any O' Byrne Cup or league games. Thankfully that proportion is also small.
Every single Dublin supporter sitting around me 2 weeks ago was a credit to Dublin GAA and several shook my hand and wished us the best of luck.

Did you go to the match against Meath. Walking towards the Cusack all I heard was 1-0 to Germany all along the road. I mean the dubs supporters had more interest in a match without Ireland even inside Croke Park. Why do the Dubs not get a full house in Parnell for O'Byrne Cup matches and even some League matches because most of Dubs supporters are pure soccer fans. These are the people who will every two minutes look at the program wondering who these new guys are. They don't even know how long a half is.

    This thread is a joke.

It is bad enough that many other counties would like to level this criticism at us, however, it is even worse when it is one of our own.

One thing struck me at the Meath game last week. It was incredible how few fans left when the game was clearly gone from us. Most stayed on till the end in spite of the fact that it was a most unedifing defeat. The vast majority of fans from outside the capital will often head for the hill if the going gets very tough (which is understandable given a desire to beat the traffic), however, the Dubs couldnt have such an excuse.

Discussions about a World Cup soccer match, when it is running alongside a Dublin fixture doesnt mean that Dubs are soccer people. It means they are talking about a glamour tie in another sport, while they wait for another one to start. Anecdote is not evidence, and unless you can identify this style of discussion at the vast majority of games, then I will rubbish your example as isolated in the context of the day that was in it.

League games dont have the same following as Championship games for several reasons

-Saturday Night is not necessairly the most convenient night to get over to Donnycarney, which incidently is quite out of the way for people. It can be cold, it can be very wet. Some like to spend their solitary night of the week off doing other things. THat doesnt make them fairweather or bandwagon.

-The Sunday Games can often be afternoon fixtures in Killarney, Omagh etc, which are a pain in the arse to get to, and require early sunday morning travel.

-The games are not cheap to get into

-Other commitments may take precedent, which are not as pressing on Summer sundays.

    God this is getting boring.
Well to answer your questions, yes I did go to the Meath Dublin match.
The Meath fans I saw ( both in the pub before hand and on their way in ..) were just as happy and enthused as the result in South Africa as were any Dubs I saw.

Parnell park is pretty much full for all league matches, unlike Pairc Tailteann which looked splendid with its bare grassy slopes glistening from the winter rains , anytime I saw games there during the league.

Get off your high horse please.

I agree with this part. I was also keeping an eye on the World Cup games that day and don't think any worse of any GAA fans for doing so.

There was no need for that though. Pairc Tailteann is around three times the size of Parnell Park so it would take some effort for any county (Dublin included) to fill that on cold February nights.

I know. I was merely trying to illustrate the ridiculousness of the claims being made, that somehow the Dubs are alone in having 'fairweather' supporters , it happens everywhere. Meath being as bad.

every county has fans that are only interested in championship football tbh and so what if they never played gaa before thats whats gonna keep our great heritage alive!!!!!!!!!

am i really sticking up for the dubs on this one? lol but has to be said this thread is a joke and its an insult to the gaelic games picking on the fans taking an interest in our game!

long live our fine nation and i say to fairweather fans WELCOME AND TAKE A SEAT!!!!!

I'm not talking about the lad who can't attend league games because it is an inconvenience, I'm talking about these soccer fans who don't know the first thing about gaelic football thinking they are experts in their knowledge of the game.

Booing at half-time, where did they get that from? Not from Kerry anyway.

By the way there was decrease in attendance for the first two games this year, if we got lucky and reached the quarter-final I can guarantee there will be 82,300 people in Croke Park. I think that is what you call the bandwagon crowd. Where were those 30,000 extra people who ok fair enough can't make league games but Sunday afternoons in June? Probably din't even know it was on.

But according to you guys it is the same in every county. Bullsh*t

OP, while I respect your opinion as a Dublin fan and would be inclined to agree with quite a bit of what you've posted, there's no way I can leave this open without it descending into a free-for-all. That's certainly not a slight on anybody that's posted in this thread though.
