Small Touch Screen leaked-New Apple Product?

So this pic of what appears to be a touch screen for an Apple product is making its' rounds today. The Apple branded 1.2" screen was laked by Apple.pro, who also leaked the White iPhone 4 and the unibody MacBook Pro so they have a good track record.

There's talk that it could be for the remote of the next Apple TV, the next Shuffle, the next Nano or even a trackpad for the next MacBook (the connector at the bottom supposedly looks the same as the trackpad connector found on MacBooks).

Someone also did a mock up of what the next Shuffle could look like. Personally I dont think it would be for an iPod. The Shuffle doesnt need a screen, and it would be much too small for the Nano. I think it would be too small to be a trackpad too. What do ye think?

    And very unnecessary.

It could be just a prototype from R&D and not be meant for any mass market product but i would love if it was built into the next MacBook Pro or even a wireless keyboard

    Finger print recognition.

could Apple be working the angle that Mac is the safest platform both online and physically.

You don't need a screen for fingerprint recognition. Besides, there's already laptops with fingerprint recognition.

Don't forget that it is multitouch, so can respond to swipes, pinches etc. Still hard to know what it could be used for, that is if it is legit.

At least they would be maintain a level of consistency, i.e. lying.

Who said it was multi-touch? Besides, gestures such as pinch etc. are pointless on a screen that size.

Because if it is a touchscreen, it is going to have MultiTouch support. Apple have yet to release a non-MultiTouch based Touchscreen device, and I dont think they are going to start now. As useless as a 1.2" MultiTouch screen is, a regular 1.2" Touchscreen would be even more useless.

Some people would struggle to fit more than 1 finger on such a small screen :D

It looks identical to the iPhone4 screen, only smaller.

I'd think if they did use this sort of thing in an iPod nano it'd be used more like a cover art view:

Corrected and besides, that's quite the assumption. How would a non multi-touch screen be more useless? Seriously, what benefit would mt give a device of this size? I'd like to hear some examples.

There are rumors that this will be going on the next Apple TV Remote (which I dont think is true but will use it as an example)

If the screen was put on a remote, gestures such as flicking the screen to the right could skip to the next song/video, dragging your finger across the screen could fast forward a song/video, pinching the screen could zoom in and out of photos on your Apple TV.

You cannot do this without MT support.

looks a bit like a photovoltaic plate or solar panel for charging an ipod :)

I don't think so, for a couple of reasons:

    * photovoltaic panels don't need data cables

    * photovoltaic cells are quite distinct, they generally don't look like LCD panels

    * a matter of opinion of course, but to me it looks nearly identical to the IPS displays used in iPhone4

It could just be a prototype display for the iPhone that took this long to leak.

I dunno, I think the guys at Cupertino try a lot of thongs, this may not even be for a product at all but just a test unit

Handy for all the buttock clenching when someone loses an iPhone prototype......:D

You can do all those things, except the pinch gesture, without mt.
