    Hi all,

I've been looking around and i dont really know what to be searching for..

What i'm looking for is a software that will let me open a song (MP3 file) cut bits from that song and place them on a timeline.. also let me have more then 1 timeline/channel so i have add a beat,, I'll be cutting up a good few songs.

I'm trying to make a mashups.. Well i'm teaching myself... But the cutting of the MP3 files is the main thing..

any tips of info would be great. thanks.

I reckon Audacity would let you do that. I don't use it but as an audio editor that's what it's designed to do. It's free too. :)

Not sure if you can add a beat in Audacity, you probably can but you could just chop up the mp3 in Audacity and import it into any DAW and then add a beat.

Thats what I meant, you can chop it up and import it into a timeline that every DAW has. Or else you can edit it within the DAW itself and paste it in.

All audio editing software uses a linear editing area, i.e. a time line.

If you have existing beats then you can use audacity. If you wanna make heats then you'll need some beat making tool/software and a audio editor/DAW to put it all together.

Audacity is a linear editing tool though, so it would work in the time-line fashion.

If you want multiple simultaniously layers of time lines you'll need some daw software like reaper or cubase or sonar.

    Magix Music Maker

I guess Ableton Live would let you do that, seems to be more or less what its designed to do. Plus you can adjust the tempo of the track a little to match beats.
