Ipad charger

What do Irish Ipad users use as a charger or external power supply ?

Only found out a few mins ago that the Ipad wont
charge via the USB cable as the port wont chuck out enough juice to charge it.

Supposedly it will charge slowly if the screen is off or in sleep mode. This is no good to me as I had intended having it plugged into a USB port when using it in work when at my desk so the battery does not get drained.

The 10w charger that came with mine today
as American Plug pins and I dont have an adapter these
slot off revealing a familiar looking connection so desperatly searching the house for some old radio or alarm clock or something that may have a cable to fit.

Yep, I'm in that conundrum right now.

I left my 10w charger behind me on the presumption my iPhone charger was the same! :(

If you own an iPhone or a friend has a spare iPhone charger just slide off the 3pin adapter and Onto your 10W ipad dicey and away you go.

You cant slide off the three pin on a iPhone charger its all one piece and the USB goes into it.

There is sweet FA in difference if an ipad is charged with an regular iPhone charger or an iPad charger. I have both beside my bed and have never noticed a difference depending on which plug my ipad is connected to.

On another note your iPad will charge if you plug it into your computer. you just need to have the screen switched off. Its slower sure but its kind of like a fridge door situation. when you turn the screen on it will say not charging but when you plug it out the percentage charge will have increased.

There is a big difference as the chart below indicates:

The iPad / iPhone are identical in terms of wattage and voltage - but the iPad charger outputs at 2-amp whereas the iPhone charger outputs at 1-amp. It's takes twice as long using an iPhone charger.

The Iphone 1 piece charger I had only spat out 500mA so was not
    great.

This one aparently is a bit of alright but its still American.
for charging faster than the USB with screen off and a tiny
    bit faster than Apples charger.

Will nip into town in the the morning and see if I can
get one of those universal plugs that I can use.

A bit surprised and a little disappointed really, Got so used
to gadgets in this day and age charging through USB ports without the slightest issue.

Thats not a big difference. The iPad has a roughly 10 hour battery which is designed to get you from one end of you day to the next. you come home and plug you ipad in and leave it over night when you go to bed.

Unless your Margaret Tatcher (and I don't think you are) or someone else who only sleeps for 4 hours a night you iPad not charging to 100% when you want it is not an issue.

Would love if it got a full 10 hours out of a single charge. (with active use)
I played around with mine today for a little over an hour
and the battery went from 100% down to 65%
I was browsing, downloading apps, and tried a few games.

(Even though it said 100% when I powered it up who knows how long it was sitting in a box before I bought it
so it may not have been a true reading)

Its been charging with screen off since I made my first post so is upto 98% at the moment
when I checked which is not too bad.

There's a lot of battery saving tips if you google, one of the main factors is screen brighness. I hate the way in iOS 3.2 there is no feature to display usage stats like the iPhone as i'd love to see how many hours ive used it for etc.

That's sounds odd. I'm getting 10 hours on average from a full charge, and that's with quite heavy usage. Browsing, watching videos etc. all give me the 10 hours. Only got some games recently so can't comment on that, but certainly going from 100% to 65 in such a short space of time doesn't sound right.

The iPhone charger I got with my 3G the 3 pin Irish/uk plug just slides off. I'm also getting about 10 hours out of my ipad on full charge.

you could also slide off the american attachment and just plug in a "figure eight" power cord like youd have on back of your dvd player or camera carger etc.
