JFK, 1:45 between flights

    Hi,

I wonder if anyone firmiliar with JFK could let me know their opinion....I am looking at getting a flight from Dublin to Vegas, the best option seems to be through JFK in New York but the outward journey only leaves 1 hour and 45 minutes between flights.

Do you think this is too tight? I can't tell if the flights are arriving and departing from different terminals but I would guess different terminals. The flights would be with the same carrier so the baggage should be able to get checked through.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

All Aer Lingus flights should arrive at the main International Terminal, but any domestic flights within the US will be going from different terminals - each airline like United and Delta will have their own terminal.

If you are booking Aer Lingus, try and make sure you are on one of the flights that clears US immigration here in Ireland (rather than on the other side on arrival). Also if you are booking this trip as 1 ticket (through a travel agent)then if the first flight is late and you miss the Las Vegas flight then the airline should re-accomodate you on the next flight. But that won't happen if you are booking them seperatly on the internet as 2 seperate tickets. In that case if you miss the Las Vegas flight due to a delay on the Aer Lingus flight, you'd be forced to buy a new ticket there and then :(

I'd say 1 hour 45 is cutting it a bit too tight.

As far as I know, the baggage won't be checked through. You will have to pick it up and then drop it off but not re-checkin. This is what I had to do going to Vegas through Boston.

You will have to collect bags, bring them through customs and drop them off. Which airline are you looking at?

Based on the info you have given I am going to presume that you are flying Delta and connecting with them again at JFK onto Vegas.

If that is the case you will have cleared immigration at Dublin and will be arriving and departing from the (rather shabby) Delta terminal at JFK. In this case 1hr 45 will be plenty, you should have time to get a quick bite to eat as well.

Even if your flight is delayed and you miss your connection, Delta will put you on the next flight anyway assuming you bought a through ticket off their website.

Thanks, good to know they use the same terminal for all their flights.
