Personal Blood Pressure Monitor

    Hi All,

I recently suffered a seizure which landed me in A & E and I've had to return 3 more times over the last 3 weeks.

I haven't been having any more seizures but have been feeling very faint, as if I am about to faint or seizure. It now seems that I am suffering from a prolonged case of hypotension (low blood pressure). I'm investigating fixes for this and hope to be fully better soon.

I want to get a personal blood pressure monitor (on wrist maybe) to keep an eye on this. I can see that it is possible to purchase these online but I would really prefer to go to a shop where I can discuss the features with a salesperson.

Does anyone know where I can buy these in Ireland? Do any shops sell them?

    Kind regards,
    Warrior Monk

Most pharmacies stock them. They can be pricey though. Talk to your pharmacist and I'm sure they can help you choose the BP monitor that's right for you

Many GPs have them too and they give them out for a week or so, an advantage of this is that your GP will be able to interpret you readings for you when you return it.

Thanks guys, I'll talk to a pharmacist first as my patience with GPs is at just about nil right now. I really appreciate the advice.

I bought one off ebay recently (Cork seller). It is an upper arm monitor which is a lot more reliable than a wrist monitor. Someone I know bought a wrist monitor from a chemist and it doesn't work anymore. If you want to interpret the readings try this: http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/medicine/blood-pressure.htm

Ya I always recommend the better quality but unfortunately more expensive brand (Omron) to my patients. It's the brand I've seen in any GP surgery I've been in and we've had one at home for a little over a year at the moment and it's still going very well.

Thanks Bleg, I've gone for the Omron R7. Should receive it next week.
