Hi. i have managed to pay for goods on paypal before without logging in to my account - and paying using visa. I want to do this again - but the paypal system seems to be forcing me into opening an account.

Its important due to the extra protection of paying paypal via visa.

Anyone got a link on the paypal site as to how I do this again - as I cant seem to find it?

I don't think you can send money without opening an account. So why not just open one?

Hi mate. Paypal doesn't provide the buyer with any protection when it comes to 'faulty' goods (only with non-delivery) when bought outside of ebay. I had issues with a vendor to this effect (i think you may well have posted on my thread on the subject in this section) - and it is only because I had paid the vendor using paypal via visa without having to log in to my account. It was visa protection that saved me and got me my chargeback.

I just can't seem to find a way of making this type of payment this time round...

<EDIT> I found this here which states its optional. However, when I go to transact, it wants to create an account for me.</EDIT>

The merchant has to enable the option to receive payments this way
To turn the feature on or off, simply log in to PayPal, go to Profile, click ‘Website Payment Preferences’ under the Selling Preferences column and tick the yes/no box under PayPal Account Optional.
You (as buyer) don't get the choice, which is probably why it's rarely seen. I'd never heard of this before.

I wonder is there a compelling reason for a merchant not to do this? Maybe there's no protection for them, or something like that. Hence it's not really used by anyone. You'd think that a seller would be willing to accept any form of payment to make a sale, so there's got to be something. Could be high charges associated with it either.

Because theres no protection for the buyer even though we are charged extra for paypal payment (where the merchant is operating outside of ebay) - aside from proof that merchant has delivered the item (although they could just about deliver anything in paypals eyes).
