I've been on a temporary contract for over a year now with quite a big company, permanent jobs within the company have been advertised and on 2 occasions i applied for a position to be told by then HR dept I couldnt apply because I was on a temporary contract. Is this right?
A week or two after the job I applied for was advertised a similar job in a different location was advertised with "all temporary staff may apply" attached to it. How can it be one rule for one job and another for another?

How long is your contract actually for? I.e. does it state a fixed term in your contract?

Under the law, a temp contractor must be given the opportunity to be made permanent. you are entitled to apply for the position. They can not discriminate against you because you are a temporary contractor with the company.
