A friend wants to scrap a 94 Volkswagen Golf in the Dublin City Council area.

This it says on Dublinwaste.ie it's free as long as you can get it to one of the locations. But I was asked to ask if these's any place which would pay for the car, or at least pick it up for free?

The car is currently off the road, parked on private land in the north of the city, the insurance and tax is up and it's due an NCT.

Does anybody know what the options are before I ring up the named places provided by the council? Does any places pay for scraping cars?

There is lads dotted all over the net advertising to take cars away for free because yes the breakers /dismantlers will pay out, think it's about €80 or €90 a car at the mo.

Any idea what kind of price range you'd be talking about for that?

Have a car that needs scrapping also and after checking Google 2 places came up. Seamas and Alan.

Has anyone used them and are they legit? It's for my Father, there's no way he'll sell it for parts and he's paranoid about old cars!

If you are disposing of an "End of life Vehicle" only give it to a registered/licenced waste collecter/dismantler/recycler and make sure you get a "certificate of destruction" for the car,any genuine buisness should be happy to do this for you.
There is a lot of unregistered people out there operating illegaly
the proper Cert should give you piece of mind that the car is disposed of and deregistered from you name correctly.

Is there anyway for me to find out if the 2 I've posted are legit before contacting them?

Ring and Ask for their waste permit/waste collection permit number from the local authority,
or look it up on your local authoritys website,if they are legit they will be on there.
