There are a lot of these sites that send text messages for free
    http://www.text4free.net/
    http://www.onlinetextmessage.com/
    http://textforfree.net/
but none of them seem to cover vodafone IE. Anyone here know how to send text messages to Irish mobiles from the internet?
Well a few of us on Boards here developed scripts that automatically log into your O2/Meteor or Vodafone account and send a message via it. Unfort you'll have a limit on how many you can send.

Of course you could make the script intelligent to work out if 0 messages left, and if so use a new number :)

I don't think you'd find a free reliable service to send SMS messages to Irish phones. I mean, the operators charge for each message sent so I doubt anyone will waste there money paying for others to send free messages.

Yep that came from boardsie developers :)

Few years back we had AFT for the phone, java app for phone. If you search the mobile forum you see. Not sure if that works anymore.

I've looked up details on unlimited texts to any network. I think the usage policy was around 5000 (can't remember which service provider i went to). (and 20 euros a month) works out to be 0.4 cent (or 0.004 euro) a text. Which is not bad at all. I was thinking of setting up a phone to a webserver and selling the service on but never got around to it.

    Why not try clickatell.com..

Note that it's not free but texts work out at around 3.5c each.. there's also an online app that you can use to send messages store contacts etc..

Does any-one use Webtext? My Mobile provider is Vodafone, and by registering on the Vodafone website, I get to send 600 free texts per month from my computer to any other network. I'm sure 02 and Meteor etc. have free Web-texting too? You would usually just have to register with their website, which you possibly have already done anyway to avail of the initial introductory free credit.

Not really sure what O.P. is looking for  but that's how I text for free from my computer .... :)

Yep and it's with those free texts that the likes of Cabbage texter works with. You should look into using it yourself even. Better than having to log into the website repeatedly.

No you don't. Cabbage is free. Look at the website: http://www.cabbagetexter.com/

I'm only letting you know it exists. It can be handier to use than the web text.
