What's the best card out there for high resolutions? (2650x1600)

Under €400 or less.....oh and preferably ATI!

if you can get a 5870 2gb version for under 400 would be your best bet

The 1GB HD5830 for €225 is a good card for 2560x1600, only game I've seen it doesn't get over 30FPS in is Crysis and STALKER Clear Sky. It averages 50FPS and up in a lot of games. Not much point in spending nearly €400 on a video card that can do over 100FPS if you can't see more than 60FPS.

You can get HD5830s for as low as €169, but I'd prefer at least a HD5850 for 2560*1600. Bear in mind if Full HD (1920*1080) is 2 megapixels then 2560*1600 is 4 megapixels - twice as demanding for a card to write to. Using a HD5850 at that res is like taking on Full HD with a HD5750, but using a HD5830 instead is more like playing Full HD with a HD4830. Not so clever...

Well, if he really wants more FPS he can get the HD5850, but there's not much point unless his monitor is 120Hz as it gets over 60FPS in most games. If he overclocked a HD5830 he could get even closer to 60FPS. If he doesn't have a 120Hz monitor, it's not worth an extra €80-100 for a 10FPS increase.

It is if your 50FPS average is getting 10FPS "dips" when things are getting busy in an FPS game! :o

    Options

    2gb 5870 - €439

    2gb 5850 - €339

Failing that maybe crossfire between different card like a cheap 1gb 5850 and a 5750? I have no idea what the performance from the like of these kind of setups are

    2*HD5750 1GB for <€200 is mighty tempting... ;)

Yeah does look like the only option, not cheap though...

I currently have a 4870 1GB which does the job on most games, it struggles with GTA and some others...

Was thinking about adding another 4870 (if I can find one!)

Adding a 1GB 4870 still gives You 1GB, only the load on the cores is shared, not memory.

The 2GB 4870x2 in my sig is false advertising but they get away with it, the gpu has got 2GB of ram, there's 1GB on each card but the information is mirrored on each cards memory giving only 1GB usable

GTA4 is very processor dependent, it generally prefers a quadcore CPU

4870 is still a great card.

As I said above, adding a second would make zero difference in GTA 4
