should i persist for a job interview

Ok so I have found a job I really really want. I applied through the usual channel on a jobs website. I called the company a few days later to talk to the main guy as it was he who was dealing with recruiting for this position. All I wanted to know was did they receive my application ( show that I am eager etc ). The sec would not put me through to him no matter how hard I tried.

So this week I did some snooping and managed to find his email address and so resubmitted my application directly to him explaining that I already sent in an application but wanted to send it direct to him so that the chances of him seeing it would be better( again trying to show I am eager ). Its been a few days and I have yet to even get an acknowledgment that they even received my application.

As mentioned I really want this job. I was thinking as my next move that I may call the company and leave a message for him saying I am Mr X or whomever from a similar company and could he give a brief call when he gets a moment or something like that to get him on the phone. I know this is technically lying but again I would like to think he would see this as me being eager and thinking outside the box in order to get an interview at least.

So would I be wasting my time doing this?? Should I wait maybe untill after the weekend? In reality I have nothing to lose by doing it but at the same time I dont want to ruin any chance I may have of getting interview with this company. Many i have spoken to said go for it as it will show determination and eagerness!!

If you were a boss of a company and someone tried this would you be impressed or would it annoy you?

Advise needed please kind people of the internet.......

    cheers

    frAg

Please note that the job in question requires minimal experience as inhouse training is provided so lack of experience should not I hope go against me.

I think that you being pro-active and showing that you really want the job is a good thing but getting him to ring you on the pretence that you are from another company or that it is normal business related would just be shooting yourself in the foot I think to be honest.

Im sure that every job these days is getting tons of applications and they are simply waiting till they close the job on the site until they respond. Im sure they will remember your name when they start to review the cvs that they get in.

The best of luck with it anyway.. you deserve it after all your hijinks ;)

Lying to get him to ring you could go either way; He might be impressed by your resourcefulness, or more likely he'll be quite annoyed and regard you as a pest and bin your application.

i wouldnt to be honest. you sent an application, you called, and you emailed him directly. i think if you decieve the reception to get through to someone then it might be noted and go against you. our reception have to field sales/marketing calls all the time - we pass on the messages to the relevant person, but if someone got through by fibbing, we would be irritated and so would the recipient.

remember this is a company you want to hopefully work for. a good impression is what you want, from reception all the way up.

hey, best of luck though ;)

    find out where he lives.

    kill him.

    assume his identity.

    now YOU'RE the boss.

    simples.

thanx guys for the replies and advice,

maybe i should just email him one last time and explain why i want the job as opposed to applying again with cv and cover letter?

If i were to call and use some pretence to talk to him what would you recommend to get past reception or should i just not bother at all?

    cheers again

To be honest, this sounds like it could well be one of the many "fake" jobs going around these days. They may have no intention of interviewing anyone.

I also think that the tactics you're suggesting are leaning more towards harrassment/annoyance than resourcefulness!

It is a real job as its the company themselves that have advertised the position on both their own website aswell as on several job boards.

I also called about it and while I did not get talking to the person in question it was confirmed that they are hiring.

I'd let it rest at this point if I were you, you've applyed through the normal route, emailed him directly as well, and are waiting.

There are massive delays with a lot of jobs and interviews now due to the amount of applicants, plus it's the summer time and a lot of people are on leave.

I've one friend who applied for a job three weeks ago, and heard this week that they will be interviewed, in August as the company are in the middle of their annual leave cycle.

And one final point, if they have a process that you apply to HR etc and you go outside that process and email/call the hiring manager direct, they may simply bin your application as it's not going through the company process.

    Where is the job ?

I had a similar expierience a year ago, seen a job I really wanted got no replies to my applications etc, I came on here complaining, a fellow boardsie seen it and he happened to work there.
He then handed my c.v. in directly , I had an interview the next day and I am now coming up on one year in the position :)

Oh and the kind boardsie got a nice referral bonus.

    Dude, you've applied TWICE already.

    Just leave it alone.

You will not be hired by duping an interviewer into interviewing you...

You have shown great focus in applying for this job (and obviously having no details on you or the job), if they don't call you for interview, then they have found better candidates, forcing the issue won't get you anywhere.

I receive about 10 CV's a week in work. Hate to say it but I normally read the first line and chuck them in the bin without the manager ever seeing.

We are not hiring and wont be for a long time.

You are beginning to sound like a stalker. You have emailed twice and called.
You are only going to become a nuisance if you keep persisting.
The recruiter is probably thinking, what if I put this person into a job, are they going to be like this with their co-workers? There is nothing more annoying than someone who insists on repeatedly emailing the same thing over and over until they get an answer.

You've possibly already made a bad impression by being pushy with the secretary and going outside normal channels to contact the manager directly. If you don't have the skills and experience they're looking for, you won't get an interview no matter how eager you appear to be. You'd be better off honing your interview skills or attempting to get the experience that will help you get a job like this than continuing to pester people that have better things to be doing.
