    Hi

I was thinking about adding the VOIP bundle to my bband/phone package. Just wanted some opinions on the service really, is it the fantastic service I really want or am I just going to end up raging down the phone to Eircom on a regular basis......

    thoughts/horror stories/recommendations for other services welcome :D

    Thanks!

I have Eircom broadband, but do not use their VOIP service.
I use Blueface.ie for my VOIP needs as well as other providers.

My main reason is I have no intention of tying my VOIP to one broadband provider. Blueface.ie or other providers do not care whose broadband you use.

    I like that separation.

just had a look at Blueface and it seems quite expensive - on Eircom for €5 a month I can have 600 mins UK calls and unlim national & local calls, looks like I'd have to pay €10 with Blueface - am I missing something?

Is there any reason I would want to keep VOIP & bband providers separate - I am totally new to VOIP packages so know nothing!

I am not familiar with pricing presently so no comment on that.

If you have your VOIP phone with your ISP (Eircom) and at some time in the future wish to change to a different broadband supplier then you will need to change your VOIP set up and probably number etc etc.
Using an independent VOIP supplier - or a selection of them - changing your broadband supplier will have no effect on your VOIP connection.

You should have a look about ..... there is no reason at all to have only one VOIP provider ....... each will likely have their plus's so some calls will be cheaper with one and different calls will be cheaper with another.

    regards.

    EDIT
Just had a quick look at Eircom's pricing and service and I guess in some cases it might make some sense, in others I am not so sure. Depends on your use I guess.
I saw nowhere on their price list or other blurb, that the user could make free calls to other SIP VOIP users. In addition calls to 076 numbers seem to be charged at local rates .... hard to discern from their info. It does not seem to matter if the 076 numbers are Eircom's or other providers.
I use my VOIP line to call other 076 numbers - no charge and other SIP VOIP users around the world - no charge.
I cannot find any reference on Eircom's site about the user having a SIP URI for this purpose.

Having spent about 30 mins looking around the Eircom site the information that is missing is what makes me nervous.
