I'd bring it back to the people who did the work, asap.

the guy told her this is normal and the car will never be the same again ,doesnt sound right to me

Sounds to me as though he didn't repair all the damage. Did he tell her before the work that he was only going to partially repair the engine?

Bull, if he had done a full repair, theres no reason it wouldn't run as well as before.

well the timing belt runs the cam-shaft which controls the valves on each cylinder,
when a timing belt breaks the valves dont operate

it might be possible that the vavles are not set properly and the valves might be opening/closing too early or late. otherwise the valves themselves might be F88ked.

get a different mechanic to examine it.

He didn't just throw on a new TB and hope for the best, did he?

ill ask these questions and post back ,thanks for that everyone

and i might suggest she get it looked at by another mechanic, and take it from there

If the valves or the pistons were damaged and not replaced the engine would destroy itself as soon as it was started. Sounds to me more likely that the timing is out because the belt was not properly fitted.

If the engine is an interference engine (google it) then there may be valve/piston damage.

Also the mechanic may have not lined everything up right before putting new belt on, causing the timing to be off.

yea no reason why it shouldnt be running as it was before. He didnt fix it properly. Depending on the type of engine and when the belt snapped eg at high revs, there can be a lot of damage done. (if its an intefering engine).

He may have thought he might get away with a simple fix instead of the costs involved in replacing the whole engine but one way or the other something was missed and will need to be fixed.
