Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with any batteries other than the one supplied? I've tried 2 of the official batteries and can barely get a day out of them with light enough use and wifi, gps and bluetooth off.

I found the stock, HTC supplied rom was crap on batter life. Got about 10-12 hours of "normal" usage in a day. I rooted and installed Modaco MCR 3.1 and now with the same settings get 25-30 hours. This is with pull email every 15 mins, bluetooth on all day and probably wifi for an hour or two.

+1 on the new rom - i'm finding that the battery is lasting much better

Also v interested about improving the supply side as well as the demand side!

Anyone got any exp with higher capacity batteries?

This external battery keeps me nicely charged but at 15 inches diagonally it's a bit too big to fit in my pocket....

There's one available but it's expensive and after being tested it was found that it has an even lower power rating than the stock battery.

Yes - for the past two weeks I've been using a "Mugen" 3200 mAh battery for the HTC Desire - Alright - its a bit fat and comes with a new back cover for the phone - came in 2 days from Hong Kong. I'm a heavy user - stock battery would always be on orange from 4pm - I can now go two days without a charge - well worth $78
The link to the site where I bought the battery is below

There are a number of tips for improving battery life but these are the two I have found to help the most.

Go to your phones dialer and enter *#*#4636#*#* (*#*#info#*#*)
Choose "Phone information" from the menu that appears
Scroll down and change the preferred network type to GSM auto (PRL)

I think the Desire defaults to WCDMA. You will still get your normal access to 3G or Edge but the phone won't waste so much battery constantly switching between them in poor reception areas.

The other tip is for calibrating the battery which I have just posted on my blog Battery Calibration

Cheers will give that a go before changing ROM or buying a new battery. How long do you get out of it?

Depends a lot on usage but I will get 24-36 hours minimum usually. Can stretch to 2 days.

Heard a lot of good feedback about JuiceDefender just installed it now as I kept meaning to give it a try. It controls data usage and sync while the phone isn't in use.

I tried this recently and i must say it seems to have improved the battery life. The widget says it's lasting twice a long but I'd take that with a grain of salt :D

14h 30m so far and I still have 80% battery left. Only some very light use during that time but seems to be a pretty good improvement. Usually uses a lot more battery during standby.
