The Irish Times report that Darren Sutherland's family have been granted a licence by Tom Dowling, the Meath County Manager, to exhume his remains from St Finian’s Cemetery in Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland.

Whatever happened, I just hope to whole ordeal soon comes to a conclusion and his family can gain some closure and try to move on. Such a horrible tragedy.:(

Feel sorry for the family, as said above hope things can be cleared up for their sake

I don't think they are going to find anything new here. The chap was found hanging in
Maloney's flat. I think that is self explanatory. Thoughts with the family.

Are they looking for a 'death by misadventure' rather than 'suicide' or something along those lines? It seems a bit strange.

Darren's father is adamant that his son was not depressed; frustrated, yes, but not depressed.

Look, depression, stress, frustration, anger, sadness etc can be so different for each person, so subtle, hard to detect and diagnose. It is a very strange condition that is very personal to each individual.

Really, who says you have to be depressed to take your life?

Yea but don't see how exhuming his body is going to give them a clearer picture as to what his mental state was leading up to his death. Ah, I don't really want to comment too much on this story. Thoughts with his family.

I agree, I don't see how exhumation will resolve much. I assume they are
looking for other signs on the body, injuries maybe, or ingestion of any
    chemicals, medicines, poisons etc...

I'm not saying that it is the cause of the exhumation but this type of thing is very common because of insurance. Insurance companies don't pay out money for suicide but they do for "death by misadventure".

Very good point. It is something I had heard, but completely overlooked it

I think it's probably the insurance issure more than anything else, and the fact that the autopsy was done in UK. Think the family would have rathered it to be done in Eire.

It's a bit late now though. Almost a year later, there won't be much remains apart from bones.

    In relation to insurance money!

I actually can't believe the idle gossip that goes on here!

Could it be beyond anyones grasp that its none of the above and maybe something you don't know anything about!

Grace, this is a mature and respectable forum for topics and discussion. This issue was brought up, what is wrong with that? Nobody said it's definitive.
Care to tell us your view of maybe why the family want the body exhumed? Darren was a public figure and a respected figure too.
He died tragically, and people will talk and will wonder and will query; that is life.

So, maybe the insurance 'avenue' is NOT the reason, nobody said it definitely was.

With all due respect Grace, having read your previous posts, I would honestly urge you to avoid getting into discussion here. It didn't go so well before, and I can't see any good coming of it, but that's just my opinion. It's hard to be objective and controlled when it's an issue close to the heart.

    Just my 2c.

I heard this on an early news report this morning. It wasn't on any of the later reports I heard.

    Anyone else hear this?

Poly, this news was reported several weeks ago. I will merge this thread with an existing thread open

    Regards.

Families want answers and closure, this doesnt help.

The conspiracy theorists and cynics will say this is a ploy for an insurance pay out but i'd just like to hear a definitive answer.

No matter what the outcome is I hope they get closure
