    Hi,

Does anyone know any form of effective advertising. I am doing Google adwords, and its getting me results. I am now trying to find another effective form of advertising, and have decided to look at local papers in Dublin, I know leaflet drops are ineffective, resulting in a 2% hit rate(hit rates not being actual sales) and my budgets are limited.
I am in the service industry.
Any ideas would be great as to which paper could work for me, or may be radio,

    Thanks
    Bullfrog

    Hi Bullfrog

Have you thought about SMS marketing. It is very cost-effective and if done right it can increase your hit rate by of 20%.

Take a look at my blogs for some mobile marketing tips

If you're finding that SEM (search engine marketing) in the form of google adwords is working well (disclosure, I work in this area so a clear vested interest) you could look at expanding to similar/related fields and advertising through Facebook/LinkedIn/Bing/etc.. The techniques involved with these other means of online advertising are similar (with subtle differences to each you would need to make yourself aware of) so you should be able to achieve decent results relatively quickly.

If you have the time to invest in it (or budget if you choose to outsource it) SEO (search engine optimisation) will provide a great long term returns if done well. It allows you to utilise the data you've already gained from your PPC campaigns to broaden the reach of your market through organic search results.

Depending on the service you provide, you might find that investing time into interacting with clients/potential clients through social media (facebook business page for example) or through an active blog could provide results. Just take care to ensure that you don't end up putting in more time/budget to these (or any form of advertising for that matter) than the results warrant.

It's not always easy to measure results accurately (given intangible benefits in terms of branding/referrals/etc.), but ensuring you know where your new leads are coming from should give you a clear idea of what is or isn't working for you. (Having said that, I'd assume you're already aware of these options and using them to the extent you believe will be beneficial for your business)

In terms of which paper/radio might work, that would really depend on 'what service' you provide. Obviously hitting the highest number of your (converting) target market for a given price is the key here and will vary greatly depending on what it is you do. If it's a very niche market, it's possible that the costs wouldn't justify it at all, or conversely that you might get excellent returns if you're hitting the right people (either a relevant broad market in or in the correct medium for your particular niche).

If you already have an extensive list of contact details for interested parties or previous/existing clients (and the required opt ins), direct mailing via email or SMS can (or normally does) provide excellent results when it's done well.
