    Hi there,

Was in corfu a few years ago and really loved it, and have decided to choose somewhere similar this year with my husband and near 3 yr old. Ideally i'd love a traditional fishing village, nice little restaurants and shops, sandy beach a must and traditional little streets and allyways. A bit like Alvor in the Algarve but Greek! Can someone recommend somewhere in greece or any of the islands?

    many thanks for any help!

Loads of threads on greece lately if you look back over the last few pages you'll get lots of info. Kefalonia seems like it might fit your needs. Do a search and you should get lots of info. Here's one thread to get you started:

    Hi

I recommend to have a look at Skiathos. You maybe know it from "Mama mia" movie.

    http://www.greeka.com/sporades/skiathos/
    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=39.162344,23.49143&daddr=&hl=en&geocode=&mra=mi&mrsp=0&sz=14&sll=39.160481,23.499241&sspn=0.049581,0.111494&ie=UTF8&ll=39.282231,23.510742&spn=0.79191,1.783905&t=h&z=10

Ryanair is flying to Volos city which is close to that island but from Frankfurt and Bergamo.

Prices there are ok and there are many choices for accommodation.

I have been there 2-3 million times :D

Tsilivi is a great resort for young families. The sandy beach is extremely safe, you have to walk out more than 50 metres before it starts to get deep. The restaurants (which are really good, especially the traditional Greek tavernas) have play areas, so your son/daughter can play away, while you enjoy your meal. If it gets very hot during the day, you could pop into one of the bars that shows kids films (Kaliva is one bar that shows them daily, in the Planos area of the resort, near Caravell and Alexandra Hotels). There's a crazy golf course, and a newly opened waterpark too. There is a daily boat trip around the island, run by a company called Levante. It's supposed to be a really good trip to take. It leaves around 10.00am and returns at 13.30 hrs. The take bookings from the beach daily, from 13.30 - 14.00hrs.

A bus/taxi into Zakythos town will take about 15 mins. It's a nice town to walk around in the evenings. One restaurant I'd recommend is Spartacus. It has a lovely roof-top bar with lovely views, and the food is excellent.

You'll have a lovely holiday in Tsilivi, I have no doubt.

Have a look at this site, it's got lots of really helpful info, plus a forum. http://www.justzante.co.uk/tsilivi.htm

Wow that all sounds perfect, thanks so much. Its actually the Alexandra I was looking at. I love the idea of the play areas in the restaurant too! Thanks for all the info, I will definitly check out that link :)

The Alexandra looks like a really lovely hotel. It's directly on a small patch of sandy beach (Planos area). The larger Tsilivi beach is just beside it.

God, I've love to be going back to Zakythos, especially when looking out at this depressing weather!

Kaliva bar, right beside Alexandra, have a large play area, with swings & the usual stuff to keep little ones entertained (as well as the films I mentioned). The food there is also really nice. Theo, one of the owners, is a lovely friendly guy.

There's a restaurant just up the road, called Stamnes. It is a really good traditional restaurant. But you can't go wrong with most of the restaurants in the resort. Food is very reaonable.

Enjoy (I'm not half jealous :o;)).

I'm goin out to Zante on Sept 3rd

Return flights were coming up at 499 per person!!!

For some reason a single flight outbound from Dublin is 150euro with PANORAMA, we booked that

Coming back on Sept 16th with Easyjet to Gatwick, landing there at 22:30, cost 90euro, hotel for night at airport is 50euro per room then aer lingus back to dubl the next afternoon (dep 13:30) is 60euro each

    Total cost 330EURO each return

Check out my post in this thread http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055966769
