    Hi,

My broadband is with Eircom but since yesterday when it comes to sending an email, I have got the following message and the email just stays in the outbox folder.
The Internet is working fine and all.

Anybody any ideas of what it could be? Thanks:)

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail1.eircom.net', Server: 'mail1.eircom.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Eircom have some different settings on their site for Outlook Express with Broadband - see here.

Main difference to your settings is:
    * The Incoming mail Server (POP3) has to be webmail.eircom.net
    * The Outgoing Mail (SMTP) server should be set to mail1.eircom.net In most cases, even if you are using a non eircom net e-mail address you will need to use the eircom net server to send e-mail. This is because most e-mail providers only allow you to send e-mail through their servers when you are connected to the Internet with them.

set your outgoing as 159.134.198.135, if this does not work try this

bring up DOS prompt and type telnet 159.134.198.135 25

    Do you make the connection?

Thanks people for your replies, it seemed to of come back up working in the meantime, however I also implemented the change as recommended in post number 5 by Diddy Kong.

However I have another problem which is related I'm sure and it seems to relate to a particular email address, when I try to send the email I get the following reply.

The recipient also has an eircom email address. I have highlighted below and slightly changed so as his email is not visible but you get the gist.

Would this error message mean I have the wrong email address for the person?

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'person@eircom.net'. Subject 'Pitch Maintenance', Account: 'mail1.eircom.net', Server: 'mail1.eircom.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.1.1 User <person@eircom.net> unknown', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
