Evenin' All, apologies if this is in the wrong forum. I wasn't quite sure where this bad boy belonged to be honest. :o

Anyway, about two weeks ago I applied for my Garda ID at my local station. Today I typed in the code online just to see how things were going and it said that they hadnt even received my application yet. So, does this mean that my application is probably still sitting in the Garda station? :(

Also, the reason I finally applied was due to the fact that my Passport is up this month and I wanted to have my ID before I renewed it, as I wouldn't have any form of ID for God knows how long. I've been told that bouncers wont accept expired Passports, but they will accept my receipt for the ID, anyone know how true this is?

Go back to the station & look for the Garda who took your application, ask him/her if the application was forwarded.

There's no hard & fast rule about what ID bouncers will accept. Ultimately they don't have to accept any at all.

    Typical. :p

Not sure what to do with the Passport, either. I'll need to renew it soonish if I want to be able to go on Holiday at all during the summer but I could be stuck without ID for God knows how long. :(

Moved to (what I hope) is a more appropriate forum.

if you read on the reciept i think it says that your card should be with you within 3 weeks after which time if you haven't recieved it you can check the status of your application on the website.

It would take a diligent bouncer to see your passport is out of date, and unless you have expired and the bouncer is having a bad day, i would be surprised if it didnt suffice.:)

all the bouncers want is prove that your 18 - passport proves that even if it's out of date.. I've never heard of someone being stopped by a bouncer for having a passport that's out of date

Correct.Bouncers will accept out of date passports. They will even accept cancelled ones with the corners clipped off them;)

Passports are extremely hard to forge so if its a forged passport they certainly havent got it just to gain entry in to a club so that would be the least of the bouncers problems.

they will not accept a receipt :eek::eek: sur couldn't your 30 year old friend have got the receipt - they want a photo of you on an official document that states your age.. then they can look at your face and make sure it's you... a receipt won't let them do that...

whoever told you all this was filling you with sh1te :rolleyes:

the old passport will be grand until you get your card... then send off for your new passport if you need it for holidays or whatever

I was at a 30th birthday there a few weeks ago, and two guys got refused on the door for out of date passports.

Bouncers usually use their discretion when viewing ID's, A lot of the time they will give you a made up reason for turning you away and producing a out of date passport is the perfect fake reason.

People don't like that door staff have right to refuse admission based purely on how they feel about you on seeing you, especially when a few drinks have been had.

Usually an excuse like your passport is out of date is given instead of, sorry mate, don't like the look of you, you could be trouble. This is done to avoid trouble at the door.

Another little ploy, is initially turning you away to see what your reaction is, if you turn to walk away 9 times out of 10 you'll be left in. If you get in the bouncer's face you're confirming what the bouncer thought, and won't get in.

@ OP bring whatever ID you have and don't get aggravated with the bouncer if you get turned away.
