What is the best Supermini on the Market new, for value for money, fuel economy, and ride comfort and handling? From my personal research the top two so far are the VW Polo 1.2 and Toyota Yaris 1.33?

If you're talking new then the best car is the Ford Fiesta , best value is The Renault Clio

If you're talking used then its best to avoid both of your choices. Terrible cars the two of them. Both are bad to drive, bad to look at, chronically over valued and not very desirable at all. Again I'd be looking at a Clio or Fiesta if it was my choice.

Mmm, Franch cars generally fall apart after a few years, and petrol Fords have massive CO2 emissions, hence huge motor tax. Also Fords tend to have terrible probs with timing belts! Its more build quality and economy then looks or resale values!

Nope, you're badly informed. Anway the modern yaris is built in France :D and as for VW build quality....dont get me started.

The advice was free, the car is'nt ;)

If your going to use it mainly on the city, i would say have a look at the IQ, it should win on economy and handling, maybe not so much on Value. Trust me go and drive one.

New Fiesta is a very fine car. Some distance better than VW and Toyota.

The Yaris 1.33 engine and 6 speed gearbox is a peach, had them in an Urban Cruiser last year and they really impressed. In the lighter Yaris they should be class. 104 road tax good for a 100bhp petrol too.

I prefer the look of the Polo though.

Yeah but the 1 litre is in the top 20 God awful cars of all time. There's no way around it Colm , its a shocker. Terrible car compared to what you can get at the moment.

But the OP is looking (quite rightly) at the 1.33 engine.

The 1.0 engine has its own charm, loves to be revved. but the 1.33 is in a different league.

    Good point.

Its still outclassed by .....eh ..... everything though.

The Yaris 1.33 also has 33% more power than a Clio 1.2.

To be fair it probably also costs about 33% more :)

It would have to be the Fiesta for me.

Is this a new car to emigrate in OP?
Since your view on cars is " the only two everyday affordable Brands worth buying are Toyota or VW ", is the thread not a bit pointless?

Far be it for me to call anyone a troll, but the OP's posting history leans the teenist bit towards under bridge dweller.

Fiesta all the way. The new model is just a realy nice car to drive imo.

Is that wayward sarcasm or do you really dislike the Fiesta?

Anyone else think this thread would be about Arbarth 500's, Clio Cups, Fiesta ST's etc?

Rubbish! The current Fiesta's top end engine (1.6 Ti-VCT petrol with 120bhp) only incurs €156 p.a. road tax.

Seat Ibiza 1.4 Diesel >> HERE <<
    104 road tax
    Miser on diesel
    Comfy enough.
Just on the budget limit but I am sure a bit of haggling would get it cheaper

I have the SEAT Cordoba version of this and do mainly 95 - 99% of my driving around town and cannot believe how cheap it is to run and easy to drive.
Don't knock it till you try it

    fiat_500_uff_am_01.jpg

Have one for 2 years. Fill a tank for 35euro, does me for the week, i drive about 70km to and from work. Tax is 104euro p/a. Can't fault it. Only downsize is its size, but in saying that everytime i get into a Polo or Clio i don't see much of a difference.
