We're travelling to Italy this weekend and have hired a car. Can anyone advise please does one need an international license or does one's own license suffice?

Also can anyone advise on good value travel insurance that covers the volcanic ash?

    Thanks

Your own licence is sufficient for driving on holiday in Europe. One driving tip for Italy: if you're planning on driving on autostrada be very wary as the slip
roads on and off are horribly short compared to most Irish ones, so you need to be alert and merge quickly and surely.

You do not need to take out insurance for volcanic disruption, there is currently no significant activity, but if you decide you want some Paddy Power were
doing something a while back, effectively "volcano betting" which, when you think about it, is what any insurance is... :)

By the way I always recommend having good travel insurance, just not specifically for a volcano.

Thanks a mill Mikedragon32, really appreciate the response.
Got travel insurance with AXA which appears to cover all eventualities and was very reasonsable - hopefully I won't have to use it though!:)
