Insurance when points are due but not applied yet?

    Hi Guys,

I have just received my car tax and insurance renewals.

I'm pretty happy with the quote, but there is a clause that states that you have to disclose any penalty points as there's no mention of any on the renewal.
While my named driver had two when we last renewed, I can't see mention of it but were noted at the time, I believe.
Since the last renewal, 2 penalty points have been issued to him.
Late last week, he was issued with a fixed penalty notice.
I realise this means that he WILL be issued with 2 more points but when he's got them before, they don't apply until IIRC for about six or eight weeks in general.

So, by my reckoning, with my renewal is due by the 31st July but the points probably won't stand until the middle to end of September... Do I need to disclose them or will they not apply til next years renewal?

I will obviously ring and get them to apply the initial 2 that are new this year...but what would you do? If I have to pay a bit more in the premium, I'd rather do that than invalidate my policy, but I'd rather not pay for them too prematurely either...anyone know how to approach this??

Hope I've been clear, any advise will be duly noticed!

    Cheers,
    Silcocky

just took a quick read through your post but I dont think you would be penalised with 4 points or less.

It all depends on the particular ins co - Aviva are giving me a 20% discount for no penalty points. I think you have to disclose pending penalty points too - i'd check, just to be sure.

Edit: I've just checked my policy and my excess goes from €125 to €2500 in the event that I fail to disclose penalty points. (it says penalty points, not pending penalty points)

Most policies (stop messing around with what the renewal notice says or doesn't) ask that all points current or pending disclosed. It might be a bit dearer (or may not be) but it's safer.

i have no idea which thread it was but someone on here mentioned an insurance company asking about points pending,

i was supposed to get 5 penalty points for a careless driving conviction but 2 years later and they havnt turned up yet, i told my insurance company because i assumed i would get them in the post and now i have to tell them i dont have any points!

if you think your named driver will receive the letter in the post soon i would definetly tell the insurance company,

Whatever you tell the insurance company they will quote back to you if something happens. If you don't tell them and you have an accident they might hold up the claim or not pay at all because you lied on the original quote.

It's the insurance companies job not to pay out where ever possible, that's life. It might cost more but you're better off.

Thanks everyone.... I've the same as Anan1- and it does say Penalty Points, rather than pending.....its the disclosure thing, I was just wondering if I should pre-disclose I guess...
