I'm doing the Leaving Cert next year I'm giving up accounting (thank god!) but i need another subject to replace it and im thinking of taking up applied maths or ag. science because the courses are relativly short but im really confused as to which one to pick! I'm getting an a1 in both honours maths and physics but then on the other hand I'm also getting an a1 in biology.....I'm so confused!!:confused::confused: If anyone has any advice on these subjects it would be greatly appreciated!!!

Which would you enjoy more doing? Forget about what grade you think you will get, and how short the course is.

A subject that you like is so much easier to study for than a subject which you find tedious and difficult.

I took up ag science for Leaving this year in December and only started going to classes for it in March and I think I got an A2 or B1 at least. The project in it is a big help as if you put the work in its relatively easy to get full marks in it. I found Biology helped a lot ( A1 student myself ) and it is a short enough course. This isn't to say it doesn't have its difficult bits. The exam covers every topic so thats annoying although you're guarenteed Genetics and Soil questions.

However if you are intending on taking up ag science you will need n ag science teacher to mark your project.

If you like Maths and physics then I would suggest Applied Maths. I'm teaching myself and I find some of the course to be enjoyable so much easier to get through.

Can't say anything for Ag Science other than I've heard it's easy, but yeah you need a teacher to do well in it.

Applied maths for definate. You will have covered the basics from mechanics for some questions:) the thing about applied maths is the more practice you do the better you get.

It's alright, not easy by any means but if something catches you out on a question then you won't forget it! There's 10 topics, but you only have to answer on 6 so you can leave out one or two and still have a comfortable range. The concepts look much worse than they are alot of the time, and once you've done a couple of questions you can grasp the method pretty easily.

But as I said, I like the subject, so I have a good incentive to work with it. It also helps alot with Higher maths and physics, as the things you do in AM are usually a bit harder.

I presume you've tried the acceleration questions?

    EDIT:

    Quoted for truth.

It's probably fine if you do Biology as well (I didn't). The new guy who sets the papers seems to be hellbent on adding in more Biology to the course. Surely you won't get such a bad paper as this year

The interest question is always a biggie. I despised that subject and wished for 2 years that I had chosen something else haha. Genetics is grand, but learning off weights of different animals at different stages is so tedious

App Maths is excellent. If you like maths, you'll love it. I never did physics, but I found it really interesting and I'm fairly sure I got nearly 100% in my Leaving. I've no experience of Ag Science.

hi I did applied maths in 4 months before the leaving this year !! (my 9th subject)
It's vert easy really once you understand whats going on ... you need to put in the time though !! Having said that I'd go for it !! Ag science is meant to be boring but easy so depends what you're looking for i guess

Hey, um ilikesunshine, did you teach the subject to yourself or were you taught it by a teacher?

Depends, what will you enjoy most? If you have a farming backround and like farming, Ag. Science would probably be best to get marks in.

Applied Maths is tougher than people say, believe me. Tried to do it myself at home and it didn't work out.

All honours subject require a large amount of work to get a good grade in, there's no real easiest one, just which one is best suited to your abilities. Whatever you choose, best of luck! :)
