    Hi

Just did a software update and downloaded latest update for safari and itunes. Now safari wont open up for me. I shutdown, restarted etc and nothing works. I have gone to file, open new tab/window and only a tab will open of screen( i can see the corner of the tab) but when i go to maximise it i get an error warning and it closes.

I am using mac os x 10.4.11 and the safari update was version 4.1

    any and all help appreciated

    cheers

Defiantly look for plug ins, CTLoader or conduit is a common one or fast browser search.

    Normal uninstall process:
    1. Open the Finder application and browse to Applications.
    2. Scroll down to Toolbars and click on <Toolbar Name>.
    3. Double-click on “Uninstall”.
    4. Fill in the “User name & Password” and click the OK button.

To manually uninstall the toolbar from Safari on Mac:
    Run /Applications/Toolbars/<Toolbar name>/Uninstall.app
In case the application fails you need to delete the following:
    /Library/Application Support/Conduit
    /Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
    /Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
    /Users/<User name>/Library/Application Supports/Conduit

If any of the above files exist you can delete them.

If you still have problem do you get error message?
If it is something like Fast browser search, I think their files are called MTWB and are in
    /Users/<user name>/library/MTWB/
but there may be an uninstaller somewhere.

A lot of people are unaware of these add ons from Facebook games or Vuze etc

    [QUOTE
    /Library/Application Support/Conduit
    /Library/InputManagers/CTLoader
    /Library/Receipts/ctloader.pkg
    /Library/Receipts/<Toolbar name>.pkg
    /Users/<User name>/Library/Application Supports/Conduit
    [/QUOTE]

so if I see any of the above I just hoghlight them and delete eh?

You will have to excuse me but i am somewhat green when it comes to my mac!!

Any idea what may have caused it considering I have done updates before and this never happened. I dont play games on facebook although I use vuze the odd time

    cheers again

Vuze uses CTLoader as a plugin for Safari I think, program should still work.

CTLoader and Conduit are third party and not made by apple so no real harm in removing them, just the toolbar will not work but since you didn't realise you had a toolbar then I would not worry.

If you see anything called CTLoader or Conduit you can delete it

Did you uninstall via toolbar folder in Applications?

Are you getting an error message or just safari appearing in menu bar with no window?

If error check to see if it mentions Fast browser plugin or Conduit?

And did you check the Library folder on the root of hard drive as well as library in users folder?

May also appear in the normal plug in folder in /library/internet plugins and /users/<user name>/library/internet plugins

yeah safari appears in the menu bar on top and no window.

I went into the plug in folder but could not find the plug ins you mentioned!!

Sorry to be annoying ya bro, thanks for the help so far

Is there an Input Manager folder in any of the Library folders? (/Library and /users/<xxx>/Library)
If so remove anything in them and restart.

Its a matter of finding what extra is installed that is causing the issue

nothing in the input mngr folder.

How will i know what is causing the issue? Using mozilla now but it is wrecking my head!!

If there was an Input Manager Folder then there was def some plug in installed at some point.
    Have you tried restarting?

You could also empty the cache folders, located in both Library folders.

Do you ever remember installing any ad blocker or cosmopod or anything?

Is there a SIMBL folder in /Library/Application Support/, if so whats in it.

If all these don't work try creating new account, and see if same in that account, if same, then try dragging all plug ins in /library/internet plugins/ to the desktop, if working, then drag them in one by one to see what is causing the problem.

Unfortunately usually its a plugin hiding somewhere else

there is no simbl folder in library, apps support.

il restart again and see what happens, see you on the other side fingers crossed

If you removed the files in the cache folder it may be a bit slower at first as it re caches.

If still slow I have read problems with the cache of webpage icons as per http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2453980&start=15&tstart=0
    trash two things:
    1. webpagelcons.db
    located at: library/safari/webpagelcons.db

    2. cache.db
    located at: library/caches/com.apple.safari/cache.db

    QUIT safari, then restart mac
    open safari and finally enjoy!

At least its working now, you can reinstall Vuze, just when it offers to install plugin etc(for safari and itunes) decline
