I drive a 2005 Mondeo 1.8 lx 110 ps its very comfortable and I can get nearly 40 mpg. Would it be a good decision to change to a Peugeot 407 1.6 hdi 110ps for economy and comfort. Would it be as good on the good and reliable ?
    thanks

Personally I think the Mondeo would be more reliable, especially as the mileage rises and if you do short journeys only you may have dpf issues with the Pug but it should be a good bit more economical

One of my friends is considering one of these, a 2005 1.6hdi with 100k. Bout 6k asking on it I think.

Anyone got any info on them, or any owners on here care to say how they find theirs?

407's are very hit and miss. Get a good one and you'll never look back, get a bad one ....well!!!! Horror story all the way.

At 100k miles your probably going to be looking at a new DPF soon on the HDi engine and they are expensive to replace. A user called ROW is a Peugeot guru here so it maybe worth dropping him a PM.

Cannot speak from experience of the 407 car itself but I am on my second HDi engine (similar engine in the Volvo S40 and my previous Ford Focus but for the Ford turbo) and both have been very reliable. The 1.6 HDi in the S40 is sluggish and geared wrong but found it very nippy in the Focus considering it is only 110bhp. Very frugal though, mid 50s mpg is easily achievable with these engines.
