    Hi,

well this started on sunday. went back to my car after a walk and the button on the fob wouldnt open the doors. I used the key to open the door but noticed no sound and the 4 locks didnt pop open as usual.

on starting the car, electric windows weren't working, all the dials, (speed, temp, fuel etc..) were dead. Also the back doors wont open from outside.

drove to work on monday then went training - on the way home from training, the radio died, then 5 mins later the whole car died just before entering the M50.

The AA man said it was odd, but finally said there was a fuse gone for the electric windows and that the alternator was dead. he had to tow me home!

Does this seem right or could there be other reasons.?
Its a 2002 nissan micra, old style

    Thanks

Everything electrical dying would be the alternator alright.

Have you noticed any other electrical shenanigans in the last few months?

I had a similar issue in a Nissan 350z where all my electrics died and I had to free-wheel into the lay-by at 70mph.

Turns out some retard was d1cking around with an aftermarket alarm before I owned it and didn't push in some wiring into the loom.
So my alternator wasn't charging the battery, basically!
Once the offending wire was pushed back in, everything has worked flawlessly since.

Most obvious thing would be alternator/battery but if they check out fine, check your wires!

If you're lucky your battery will be okay after you fit the new alternator. Otherwise budget for a new battery too.

Thanks for all the input guys! appreciate it! I am only driving a year so this is all new to me.
I had not noticed any other problems with the electrics prior to this. Had to replace the water pump about a month ago though.
After 4 phone calls I just got the car fixed tonight!
I got a battery charger, charged it for 4 hours and that gave me enough juice to drive 10 mins down the road to get the mechanic to look at .
They replaced the alternator and you were right vertakill! Electric problem aswell, thats prob. why all the electrics went and the fuse.
When he opened the drivers door and looked in the gap, there was a big bunch of wires in there, that were all frayed and chaffed so this most likely short circuited the alternator, dashboard, windows etc.
So right now everything is working fine again, touch wood!!!! Its almost a brand new car with all the crap I replaced in it. I paid 1500 euro for a service last year at a Nissan dealer! Crazy money!
Thats a damn scary situation where your flying into a lay by at 70mph with no power!!!
