    Hi All,

My girlfriend and I are thinking of going to La Rochelle for 5 nights. We want to stay somewhere near the beach , thats accessible via public transport and also not too much of a trek from the airport.

Can anyone recommend an area and some accomodation if possible....websites that we have been reading don't seem to give much information.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheer's all. :)

Overall, I really did not like this part of France. The beaches are not nice at all. The nearby island Ile de Re did not impress me either. Its very quiet and dull. The city of La Rochelle is a nice well preserved port town, lots of restaurants and cafes. But, if you want nicer beaches, I would go somewhere else. If you thinking of France, Biarritz is very nice.

    Hope this helps!

The Aer Lingus onboard magazine Cara have a good article about it this month and it sounds great, but obviously they're trying to push it to sell flights on the route! I'm driving the West coast later in the summer with my girlfriend and I'm hoping to spend a couple of nights there anyway. The nearby island is supposed to be beautiful for cycling around but I'm only going on that article!

Aer lingus does not fly to La Rochelle - Ryanair does.

La Rochelle is a very attractiv town - lots of history, good shops and restaurants. About an hour south are fabulous beaches and surfing around La palmyre. But in general and like so many other places in France it will be quiet......so it depends on what you are looking for - a nice relaxing holiday with good food, walks and weather then yes. But if you are looking for crazy nights and meeting people - no.

Both Aer Lingus and Ryanair currently fly from Cork to La Rochelle.

Yep and that's why they featured it in their onboard magazine. Thanks!
