Insurance Renewal Questions (snooze)

    V quick question(s)!

My car had a slight argument with another car 2 years ago on a roundabout (other driver crossed into my lane, I stopped and he continued and scraped his entire car off my front wing). Wing replaced, Insurance doubled (renewal occurred a week after incident).

Due to lack of witnesses, photos not being timestamped  (note if your camera/phone has this setting - turn it on!) and the general "cuteness" of the other driver in telling his version of the incident.
(and as Des would say when I say cute, I don't mean cuddly), our insurance companies decided to go 50:50 (my word against his - fuming at the time but I understand why).

So my 4 years NCB was reset and come renewal time this year I'll have 2 years NCB - woohoo

My question is, I noticed on the websites etc under online quotes most have a "cannot have had accident in last x years" - generally 4+.

I also still had a loading of about 250 euro on my last premium due to the incident 2 yrs ago.

I'm just wondering come renewal time, how this will affect me if I want to change insurers?
Will I have problems changing due to the 50:50 result 2 years ago?

Will I still have a loading on my insurance also?

I dont want a "refusal to insure" on my record because someone won't quote me.

It wont be a refusal to insure if its because of something like that; that refusal only refers to something like where you have had a drink driving or criminal conviction and they refused to deal with you.

I had trouble last year getting insurance as a lot of companies would quote me until I had 3 years NCB. That was with an Integra Type R tho so they may have been using it as an excuse. While youll probably have trouble getting a quote from an online quoting system, if you ring the companies direct youll probably have more joy.

I know how you feel about the accident; my insurance company refused to believe how a 40odd year old woman driving a 1 litre Fiesta could possibly be 100% at fault in an accident with a 23 year old bloke driving a Civic, even tho she cut a corner at a junction, and it was painfully obvious from all the evidence, including from the guards, that it was 100% her fault. Disgusting how they discriminate due to gender, age and the car in question.

thanks djimi, no harm in asking then if it's not held against me and I'm refused!

I just want options to get better deal (being 25 at 1200 euro is a bit ridiculous considering before that thing 2 years ago I was paying 800 at 23).

Gender and Age were pretty much same as yourself at the time (23/male) tho it was a Mondeo I was/am driving!:D (grandad car but I like my cruising on the motorways :) )

The other guy was a 60+ vectra driver who admitted to me he didn't see me because he was "looking right while driving on to the roundabout".

Still completely unproveable at the time

Should I still expect a separate "accident" loading on my insurance come renewal time (not talking about No Claims Bonus) as mentioned, I have a 2 years NCB but paid an additional 250 last year loading due to 50:50 claim

Does anyone have the answer to the below?

I know it may depend on insurer etc, but just on general experience? Also has anyone changed insurer 2 years after an accident? What were the price differences/ difficulties?

    Thanks
    V

I dont remember ever being loaded as such, just losing my NCB which meant that my policy went up from the previous year. The base premium didnt go up I dont think tho, but I could be wrong about that. Might want to run that one by your current insurers.

The main difficulty youll have with changing is the fact that a lot of companies require 3 years NCB before theyll take you on as a customer. Not all mind, so its worth rining around, but it will be a stumbling block until next year when you have built up 3 years.

I wouldn't have seen it only I read the small print under the price on my renewal. I'm with a well known Insurer (that provide favorable insurance towards younger drivers). If I remember right it said "inclusive of a loading due to accident 250.00" or whatever it was.

Anyway, fair enough I may have to wait another year to change insurance to get the 3 yr NCB, think I'll ring a broker and get them to see what best prices are when renewal comes up.
