Holiday Romances

I'm sure at one stage or another we've all experienced the excitement of a holiday romance and usually you come back home and back to reality and it becomes nothing more than a pleasant memory :)

But are there people out there who've met their OH on holiday and it continued when you got back home? Is it possible from them to work away from the sun, sea and cocktails? Or is it just best to leave what happens on holiday on holiday?

I've recently come back from Spain and met a guy on the first night, he's English but based in Spain but it immediately felt different to the usual holiday romance, I don't fall easily for BS :p, we've stayed in touch and are getting on really well. He's coming to Ireland in August and if that goes well I'll go back to Spain etc I'm just taking it as it comes at the minute and enjoying it :D

So what are your thoughts, experiences?

There's no such thing as holiday "romance" for men, its a holiday riding session.

And i don't mean to burst your bubble, but chances are that guy who you met has banged a rake of birds since you left.

I did after coming back from holidays when I was 19 with a girl I met in Spain, she was from Galway, and got on well, we met up a few times but nothing serious happened over it.

Mainly the distance and the fact we were both in college, we both understood this, but we actually still keep in contact to this day,as friends, nearly 6 years on.

There is an industry in ladies of a certain age going to places like Turkey and Tunisia to meet younger men. The ladies do fall for it, and go back and forth and give money and gifts to the lads.

I have an acquaintance who does just this about 6 times a year. I don't want to be cruel here, but if they are so successful in pulling young men over there, why doesn't that happen in Ireland for them?

I find that whole scene very seedy. It is paying for sex and a feelgood factor. But then, if they are having a good time and their needs are being met for the price of a holiday, who am I to judge.... just wouldn't get involved at all myself.

I did holiday in Tunisia about 4 years ago and came home a week early it was so sordid what was going on. I was a target myself despite being with my OH. Oh my God I thought out of the place I would never get. Apartments being rented by the hour was one speciality.... I could go on.

Each to their own I suppose.

Did you shag the bearded lady?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,178 ✭✭✭✭NothingMan

Never even had a holiday kiss :(, except when i've been away with the gf obviously.

Had a very attractive girl from Hull chat me up and ask for my number once on a ferry back from Hollyhead. She tried to call me to give me her number but my phone was dead, I never gave her the country code and never heard from her again. That sucked, did piss off my mate who had been eyeing her up the whole journey though, so not a total loss.

Dont worry we ll all know its you when you go on a BANGED UP ABROAD style show to tell your story

Dunno if this counts, but a friend of mine was flatsharing with an American lass. American lass's brother comes to visit for two weeks and at it was love at first sight.

She had moved to the states within months and they've now been married almost six years.

Every day is a holiday in this house.

    The romance- that's more sporadic.

Sound advice :) That's what I'm doing, just taking it as it comes! If it works fantastic, if not, well then it's been a fun ride (no pun intended) :D

July of last year I went to Jersey with a few mates for 5 nights. Ended up meeting a gorgeous Portuguese girl and seeing her for the few days we were there. Haven't met since but every now and then chat on FB. I had an open invite for quite a while and to be honest I'm pretty disgusted with myself that I didn't go over for a weekend.

Thinking that it was all downhill from there, I then go to Crete in August and end up meeting the most amazing looking Russian girl I've laid hands on. This was just for my last few nights of the holiday, but my God I was blown away. Every now and then we keep in touch on FB, but I feel as if I'm only tormenting myself tbh (her FB albums puts anyone elses I've seen to shame - photogenic b1tch :)).

Actually down through the years I've met up with some lovely ladies on my travels, but never really took them much further tbh. That makes me sad. :(

One day I might have the balls to follow one up.
