    im currently doing a tandum with someone, they are teaching me a Spanish and i am teaching them English. The person i am trying to help has a good foundation of English already but hasnt spoken in years, so she understands alot but is missing alot of vocabulary.

    Anyway can anyone give me some practical things i can do to help? im not a teacher and am not really sure what i should do besides talking and correcting her pronunciation.

    Its also difficult because this person is a proffessional teacher and is giving me free lesson in return for my help! anyway if anyone can give me any input that would be great,

    Find out what his interests are and get him some magazines that are relevant to those interests.

    For listening - get him to watch videos or youtube clips relevant to his interests.

    For speaking, bring him into circumstances where he needs to practise his vocabulary relevant to his interest.

    What makes you think you are qualified to teach English? I hope you're just sticking to conversational skills. If he/she is giving you professional lessons, I'm sure that he/she would expect the same in return.

    While I agree with your corrections, he did say that he wasn't a teacher, and that he wasn't sure what he 'should do besides talking and correcting her pronunciation.' I wonder what the quality of the Spanish lessons is like.

    It sounds like two people helping each other on an informal basis, but it would be advisable for both parties to also seek professional advice, if possible.
