Youre asking a lot to get less than that on a Jap import with a provisional, but try Setanta Insurance and see what they come back with. Youll need to go thru a broker; I use McCormack Hooper Dolan in Clane.

Ah yea I was thinking that it might be the best I can get alright but it's just a sickner the fact that the exact same colt would cost me about 1700, ah sure it's the price ya pay I suppose.
I must get another quote for fire and theft and maybe even just 3rd party.
    Cheers for the advice.

Unfortunately Irish insurance companies have a hangup about Japanese import cars. Ring around, you might do better, try Britton and definately check out Setanta. Your age and provisional license is not going to help tho Im afraid.

Insurance companies in Ireland are a racket/law into themselves/ scew everyone mafia. A good few years ago Mary Harney was given the task by Bertie aAhern to tackle the regulation of the insurance companies in Ireland. Mary harney's husband was the main financial director for the two main insurance companies at the time who had just merged together so I wonder what kind of a conversation her and her husband had to solve the insurance racket in Ireland at the time?? Unfortunately nothing has changed!! They are still ripping us off and make all sorts of excuses to load everyone's policy. Age, Sex, Experiance (if you past your test you can drive!!), Jap imports (if the car is registered and NCT'd in Ireland it's a roadworthy car!!). So all bulls**t excuses to rip you off and we just keep taking it. Any where in Europe or in the world for that matter your policies would be 1/4 - 1/2 the price. They have no excuses!!

i dont understand why japanese imports are so much more expensive. or why that mirage is so much more of a risk than an identical irish colt.

what is to stop you calling and insuring it as a colt and putting a colt badge on the boot? the car is essentially exactly the same?

    i await the high horses.

No high horses, but your insurance is voided in the event of a crash.

There was a thread about this a few days ago. Basically the reason Jap car insurance is more expensive is because JDM cars tend not to have much security on them when they come into the country (no alarm, immobilizer etc as standard), they are high risk in that they get stolen a lot, and they have a stigma attached to them in the insurance industry as they are traditionally owned by teenage dickheads who treat them like road racers and rack up massive insurance claims.

You can insure it as whatever you want, but if you have a claim and it turns out you were lying then you will probably be done for committing fraud. I know a few lads who thought they were great lads by doing things like insuring a Levin as a Corrolla until they got found out...

    Give us an example.

My first insurance policy in Ireland on a 1.8 standard diesel ford orion cost me 2500 euro for third party only.

My second policy in Ireland cost 1880 euro on a 1.4 petrol Rover.

My 3rd policy in SPAIN for third party, fire and theft on a 1.8 Ford turbo diesel was 450 euro first year, 330 second year, 300 third year.

I left Spain, went back to Ireland, bought an Irish car (Nissan Serena)and insured in with 4 years no-claims bonus for 750 euro.

NO Justice in that. It's a sham
