    Hi,
My laptop suddenly "dies" and the bottom is very hot, could this be that the fan is gone and is it expensive to replace or easy to do yourself
    Thanks

Most laptops do get hot, if vents are blocked or the fan stops working it can overheat. Sometimes it will cut off to prevent damage. You should be able to hear or see the fan spin up when you first start the laptop.

Sometimes you can just clean the fan and that sorts it, if the fans not working at all, should be able to get a new one on ebay or something, depends on the laptop how easy it would be to fix

You could try set the power scheme to the lowest setting to make it run cooler. In power setting in control panel on windows machine
