Installed Lucid Lynx but it won't boot up. Getting error 2 message?

I have just installed Lucid Lynx as, after a live run of it, i thought it was about time to upgrade. Everything ran smoothly in the live version so i backed up my files and installed it. When i went to boot i get this -

    Grub loading, please wait ...
    Error 2

The strange thing is it seems to be specific to the computer. I have an older, lower speced desktop, computer that i tried the hard drive in and it worked fine. Problem is its too low speced for what i want so it seems the install went ok but its something with the computer? Anyone know what could be happening and be able to help me to be able to boot into the install?

At a guess, I'd say the menus.lst (if it's still called that) is referencing an invalid hard drive, such as (0,2) instead of (0,0) or similar.

Do you have an option to enter an editor for the menu at any stage (usually by pressing 'e')?

Actually yeah, the fact that grub is loading makes my advise ridiculous. :o (what advise? ;))

Grub2 can be a little difficult to get to grips with. This is a good guide, in my opinion: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1195275

Ok i took the notion to try a hard drive with windows xp on it to see how the computer would handle that. The message from that i'm getting is -

Primary hard disk 0 not found

So it appears that the bios can't find the hard drive (bios version A03). I tried tweaking setting in the bios but nothing is making any difference. The primary hard drive is hooked up correctly and i even changed the IDE cable.

So it looks like it is a problem with the computer itself rather than grub, but is it? The thing that confuses me about this is that i was getting a grub error message but how would i be getting a grub error message if it is indeed that my hard drive isn't being recognised? Surely it is being recognised if i am getting a grub error? So where does that leave me? :P Anyone have any ideas on what could be going on. Computer itself is in perfect working order when i boot from a live disc.
