Stupid intelligent people.

I am not a particularly intelligent person, and I freely admit it, but I worked quite hard in school and managed to gain entry to a "prestigious" college course (although, as you may suspect if you read on, I don't see all that much prestige in it). I noticed more and more as they year went on that the degree of intellectual arrogance among my classmates was quite simply astonishing, and moreover, it seemed to be completely unfounded.

Initially I assumed that it was the lingering immaturity of the school attitudes towards intellectual pursuits, but I soon found, as I mingled with years above me, that this was not the case.

These people frequently mock others, usually behind their backs but often to their faces, for being intellectual inferior, their sole criterion being the level of so called prestige attached to their college course. To my mind this would be understandable, if not acceptable, if the people initiating these insults showed any signs of intellectual superiority to an amoeba, let alone all science, arts or agriculture students, to name some of the most frequently derided courses.

As far as I can see the vast majority of them are not even approaching a state which I would term well read, their grammar is appalling to the point of incomprehension (in fact most of them use smilies or acronyms more than actual words), their knowledge of basic history/geography is almost non existent, and most if not all of their pursuits are firmly within mainstream/popculture trends. This is all fine if that is how they wish to be, but it annoys me so much that they are so intellectually smug, each one believing themselves to be approaching genius simply because they are studying a course which required a higher number of points than some others. Have others experienced such incredible ignorance coupled with intellectual arrogance in other areas, or is it just something which I will be forced to contend with for the next five years or so?

Sorry for the long post, thanks if you got this far.

Most of them will fail the first year. You'll find some decent skins in the coming years after that.

Funny, when I went to school it was the other way around, you were mocked if you were clever.

Politicians, particularly those of an Irish persuasion, spring to mind.

I don't think so, I acknowledge the fact that there are plenty of people in courses which would be considered "less prestigious" than mine who would wipe the floor with me in terms of intellect. My problem is with those who consider themselves smarter based solely on the course they study.

They are out there alright. The best thing to do is relax, smile and just be happy, so, they had good grades, wow, they feel arrogant and smug towards others, not very intelligent really, obviously need to learn the more advanced school of life teachings. The way I see it filling your head with edgemecation is well and good, but to lose out on decency, not worth it.

'prestige' is the currency of kn0bheads.

Simply ignore them all and eventually they will go away.

They're fucking idiots. They will end up with shit degrees. To be honest, any fucking idiot can go to college nowadays, but it takes intelligence to stay in college and hard work to do well out of it.
If these knobs think that because they do something like commerce in UCD or law in Trinity and that such courses will automatically open doors for them, then they've a huge shit sandwich to face at the end of the degree.

What course do you study in UCD / Business ?

It happens after college when some get better jobs than others.. That's when you draw the line in the sand.

Its a faux arrogance based on insecurity. People who are confident of their own intellectual abilities don't feel the need to despise others on such shaky grounds as the points required for their courses.

People who talk the loudest about their superiority in any area are often the least personally convinced of it.

No it isn't business. I don't want to say what course it is, but it doesn't really matter anyway as I have seen this sort of attitude many similarly "prestigious" courses.

I've often said it, the most stupi people I have ever met, I met in college. You're talking about people who came out with firsts, good booksmarts, but literally couldnt boil an egg.

I remember tackling into a fella I lived with for not doing the washing. Ever. And he said that he didn't know how, so I had to show him how to put a bit of washing up liquid in the sink!

But then again, they're not really intelligent, just good at remembering tracts of information.

The majority of intelligence is common sense, thats why I always held my mates who did trades and had people working for them as more intelligent than me and most of my friends in college watching Jerry Springer and Samurai Jack for the day

So he got you to do his washing up for him and made you feel proud rather than resentful for doing it. That's a smart lad.

No, I showed the dumbass how to do it and had to literally keep my own plates, cutlery, mugs in my own room as I liked to clean when I was done
