Caught Speeding in the North

I was pulled over for speeding whilst travelling to the North on Saturday. I was doing 74 in a 60mph. Anyhow a fixed point penalty was issued and I was told that basically if I didn't accept the penalty I could have been arrested there and then and fined 400 pounds!

Not wanted to get arrested, I was then told that I'm going to have to do a half day driving course somewhere in Omagh. No mention of how much it was going to cost or anything! Not sure what's going to happen next as when I looked at the ticket afterwards, the cop took down my address wrong! Quite obviously I want to sort this out with the minimum of fuss.

Has anything like this happened to anyone recently?

I have a Irish Licence BTW.

I seriously doubt they can enforce anything like that on anyone who isn't a UK resident.

I got pulled over for speeding Flying low in a van in 1993 going down into Larne to make the ferry. Apparently they had been tailing me for miles as I was on a mission to get the ferry and was running late after non stop driving from Cork..
I told them my story that I was deleyed at the factory and told them the Factory i was delivering to and that a full workshift was dependant on my delivery.. They made a few phone calls and eventually let me off with a strict warning. This was on Saturday morning at approx 7.30, The lady Cop told me that under normal circumstances she would be arresting me and holding me until next court day, which was the following THU...!! Simply because i was an out of state citizen

you will probably end up paying the fine, do not think there any way of getting out of that but doing the course in omagh is a bit silly and they probably tell everyone they caught the same thing..cant enforce this and i really don't think they would care whether you done this or not anyway as long as the fine is paid..REVENUE IS MORE IMPORTANT AT PRESENT...

Okay hands up I was speeding but been threatened with arrest for doing 14 miles an hr above the limit is crazy.

From my research I found out that the fine is 60pounds and 3 penalty points. I guess this isn't enforceable either??? Perhaps why the half day driving course was mentioned. I was specifically told NOT to do anything and that I would get a letter in the post.

I would say he was trying to frighten you and hope you would come here and tell us all in the hope that we will be terrified to go over 60 the next time we go up the north.

tbph, theyll probably send you the ticket to your ROI address, but you dont have to pay it, as therell be no repercussions for you in the SOuth, just dont let em catch you up north as youll be wanted to appear in court for not paying the fine!

TBH just pay the £60. You wont get points. Tell em to fcuk off about the drivin course

think the points system will be changing soon as both the north and south will able to issue points no matter what side of the border your on...but pay the fine and get it out of the way
