Tid or Tit?

Occassionally, I have the need to refer to something minor such as a piece of information as a titbit of said information but have noticed others using the same reference and pronouncing it tidbit. The reasons for this I'm unsure.

Both are valid uses see defs below but I have the thought that some "insecure" gentlemen may not use the tit version in front of a lady's company for fear of causing offence possibly!?!? The tid is more of a U.S. spin on the tit version of the word.

So which do you use and why?

    Definitions:

    Titbit:
    1.
(Cookery) a tasty small piece of food; dainty
    2.
a pleasing scrap of anything, such as scandal: "juicy bit titbits of gossip gleaned from the corridors of power"

    Tidbit:
A choice morsel, as of gossip or food: "The book is chock-full of colorful tidbits about theater and theater people" (Alec Guinness).

It's titbit. The Americans changed it to 'tidbit' since they're too prudish to even say the word 'tit' in a non-breast related way. The pronunciation is creeping in over here because of American TV programmes.

I understand the difference between the two and the influence of American Tid in English speaking countries but what I really wanted to know was which do people use, when the need arises. And if those who use the Tid avoid using the Tit for the reasons outlined in the opening post.

Don't mind me, I'll just play with this ball of string!

    Meoww! Paw! Paw! :)

    Good find BK!

I think I've touched upon a social nerve for men which cannot be correctly broached within this forum. Do I win a prize?
