I'm sure you get this question a lot....But here goes!
I bought Arma 2 in its release month and it preformed/acted like a mangy dog.
Now I realise several patches have been released and have they substantially improved the preformance of the game?
I've just bought a motherboard and second-hand 4850 for my rig, I know it isn't exactly brand new but I should get a decent preformance now right?

Q6600 2.4ghz on a P5Q deluxe motherboard (Will be overclocking)
    4850 x 2 (Will be overclocking)
    4gb
    Windows 7

Sure is, performance has improved greatly with patch 1.07. Should run fine on that setup. Not sure how much benefit you will get from crossfire tbh. I would OC that processor though. What stepping is it?

My bro played it with a 4370 and a 5300 dual core 2gb ram. His monitor limited him to 1280 it ran fine for him but this was the original game dont think he ever patched it.

With the offical patches you should easily play it, but the beta patches are serious performance improvers.

It's the older B3 stepping which I've always had heating issues with (45 idle, 80+ stressed).
Now with my new motherboard and cpu cooler I'm idling at 17 degrees and under stress (with prime95) max has been 43! I'm thinking I could get the processor up to 3.0/3.2ghz.

    I'll be playing at 1920x1080.

I have one 4870 and it runs perfectly at 1920, altho my CPU is e6850 dual core so your quad would be raping that.

If you reinstall it there are tonnes of mods and missions but almost everyone has Arrowhead online may be sparse.

Of course attempting to install the game from DVD is giving me a crc error. :p
Trying to copy over to HDD first so fingers crossed.

    What cooler are you using?
More importantly what are you using to measure temps (I use coreTemp)!

    I'm using a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro with a G0 Q6600 which idle's about 47 and hits 60 at load.
I'd love to get my temps down and overclock it.

Freezer Pro isn't that great for a quad as it only has a 90mm fan. Quads are hot, even g0's
