Playing at your correct age level at Under Age

I look after an U10 football team and it has been mentioned by 1 or 2 at the club that when the kids get to U12, they have to start producing birth certs and are put in to the correct age level.

Now the spine of this team is made up of 5x U9 players (FB, HB, Mid, HF, FF). All these players are good enough to compete at U10 level as they have been with this age group for 3 or so yrs.

Does anyone know if this is definitive or just hearsay? Last thing we want to happen is in 2yrs time that these 5 players all have to leave to the younger age group and leaving a bunch of players they have played with for 5yrs and end up with that team falling apart.

I think he means is there a rule that will prevent an u10 player playing at u12 rather than vice versa.

ohhhh, in that case i dont think players who are supposed to be in u-10 should play with older players as it may sent their progress eve if you think they can play u-12...

I honestly don't think that happens, the only time I've heard of birth certs being looked for is at Feile competitions, though it might be an idea to talk to the person in charge of the 12's and see, or if you can get in contact with the person who runs the competitions. AFAIK the guidelines the GAA give are that players play at their own age level and can play at one above, which would be an under 10 playing under 12. So it would be up to the coaches, if the coaches want to play them.

I think the rule is you can play one age group above but not any more so for example u-9s can play u-10s but cant play u-12. I have never heard of people looking for birth certs in the gaa, just underage soccer when you have to give a birth cert for registration.

it will actually be an U11 player at that stage.

Right now we have 5 U9 players playing U10. When that U10 team get to U12, they will be eligible to play U11 aswell. If they are forced to move down then it will probably be the end of the current U10 team in 2yrs team

The coaches (I and a few others) will have no problem playing these guys if we think they are good enough to play. However, what happens at Feile age when these lads who will be eligible to play U13 are taking the place of an U14 aged player. The U13 players will get another crack at Feile...but the U14 player wont.

I think those people mean that when the kids get to u-12 level that the birth certs are required to prove they are eligible to play at the level ie. young enough. I dont think there is problem playing with an above age-group, for example, an u-12 player can play u-14 but not u-16.

Sure I played u16, minor, u21, and senior reserve at the same time, and i wasn;t the only one. Wheres the harm in it?

Theres a rule forbidding it in most counties, because of physical stress, the liability of 16 year-olds getting clattered by Frank the Tank from Ballybatter, burnout etc.

    This is nationwide.

Don't have a link but I'm pretty sure that there something about this on the GAA website.

I don't think there would be an issue with players who are 10 years old playing under 12 as well as playing U11, as likes others have said I think you are allowed go up one level, but that's it.

if you have that link, maybe you could send it on.

Our lads will be U11 in 2yrs time playing U12 football.

I hope I'm misinterpreting you here, but it really sounds like you have way to much of an emphasis on winning with these kids...
