    Hi all.

Thinking of going to Amsterdam in Sept and was wondering if anyone had recommendations on where to stay. If anyone stayed in apartments that would be great. Looking for something on budget, so any help would be appreciated!!

If you´re looking for budget accomodation Amsterdam is not really the place to be for ya. Try Hoofddorp, Haarlem or any of the surrounding towns/cities because Amsterdam is crazy on prices. Otherwise google Amsterdam+budget accomodation and you should get some good results

Decent budget apartments are rare in Amsterdam. You're looking at €130 per night and rising for anything other than a shoebox. I found this website quite informative:

Amsterdam accommodation is expensive, even when the standard is not good. Only discovered this after I had booked the flight, so had to find somewhere affordable to stay. Eventually, decided to try Priceline, name your own price and got the 4* NH Amsterdam Centre Hotel, for just under €60 (double room) per night, last October. Had never heard of this site,or tried it since, but could not have been more pleased. The Amsterdam Trip Advisor Forum has tons of information. Initially, I was sceptical, but, really, I need not have worried. A big drawback for some, is the fact that you prepay and will not be told which hotel you have "won" until the end of the transaction. It's definitely not for everybody!

VRBO have a good selection of apartments. Unfortunately, there are one or two online scam Amsterdam apartment rental companies, so be sure to check before you book.

Just a follow-up to my above post. I forgot to mention the the largest conference of the year in Amsterdam takes place on 9th to 14th September. Accommodation for those dates will be scarce and prices will be sky-high.

    It's cheap. I stayed in a
    wagonette
which was small but it has lights, a small table, shelf. bring a plug converter.

You can buy a tent there in their shop if all comes to worst. for about 50 euros and stay there for 7 days for about 80 euros.

    The
    wagonette
are great, there's a bar, restaurant, shop, showers, lake where you can rent kayaks, bike rental

The only set back is everytime you want to go into town you have to walk 10 minutes across a large bridge to a tram that will take you in to central station. I don't like walking. That's just me though :pac:
