madza 3 problems with car and dealer

    Hi,
I have a quick question and please go easy!!

My Father purchased a 2009 Madza 3 from a authorised dealer, early in 2009, around March.
I am aware the model changed in 2009, but it is the older looking model. See pic!
basically, The car is a pile of Sh**...... problems since the beginning.

the lastest I have noticed is that the under carraige (body??) is starting to rust. I am highly supicious myself of this particular dealer, I viewed a 2005 car before, that was crashed, dealer never said, I noticed crack in dashboard plexi glass...thing, Checked with previous owner, and sure enough It was hit from behind when he owned it!

As i said Im supicious, and recently while thinking about it, I have not noticed any 2009 registered cars in this particular model.....mainly 2006, 2007 regs.

My father paid over the odds for the car, but my main question is that if the car was lying at garage since 2007, 2008 but not registered until 2009, should he have been charged as if car rolled off the production in 2009??

this is not phrased very well....im sorry, I find it difficult to articulate my suspicions and plus Im aware he probarly has no come back anyhow regarding these issues!

I appreciate if anyone is able to shed some light on it

Sounds to me that he just bought one of the last of the old models. They were doing quite good deals on those at the time from what I remember.

Also, what were the problems? How much did he pay? When you say rust, is it surface rust or something more serious?

Its up to the customer to get the knockdown price on stock thats been sitting for a while. You cannot blame the dealer if your father didnt bargain him down. By the sounds of it, your father didnt know it was an end of line model anyway.
Whatever issues the car has been having could well be down to it being parked for a year or so. It certainly would help any component from electrical connectors to mechanical items.

the rust is quite extensive and sort breaks off or away in your hand, there is a small hole in exhaust.

other problems the km per gallon of fuel is not as was quoted by dealer and by madza. the car is using way too much petrol. the fuel needle literally drops before your eyes especially on open roads.

boot catch or lock has broken twice.

there is a small oil leak also, can see when car is moved after parking, no idea where this is coming from. Its not the oil in engine, this does not noticable dip.

when I have these wrote out, they all seem small but annoying,

Will find out how exactly how much he paid. it was over 20,000, but these cars were expensive anyway.

Fuel economy is down to the driver. Most cars will never, ever manage the claimed figures in the real world. The other problems should not be happening on a 2009 car. It has a 3 year warranty and any Mazda dealer can work on it. Book it into one and get them to honour the warranty work. Oil leak would concern me tbh...

    okay thanks,
I agree re fuel ecomony but it was the other smaller problems nearly concerend me more, the smaller problems are the likes of something you'd find on car due to wear and tear, on a car over 5 years!

will take back to dealer first and see how that pans out.
Im afraid he will just put it down to bad buy in end.

The car's still under warranty until 2012, so I wouldn't worry too much.

exactly, and if the rust is down to bad paint or something along those lines it should be covered 2. what dealer did it come from?

They are also very expensive to service! Get a Golf, Focus or Corolla!

Ya, cause VW do free servicing... Unhelpful post.
OP, I'd be very surprised and suspicious of rust on a Mazda 3. What other issues aside from the boot catch? Is that operated electrically or by a cable pull from inside?

jock101, please stop posting pointlessly. If it continues we will have to consider it trolling.

it is basically a Focus isnt it? It should be pretty bullet proof. Almost every thing you quote as a problem could be put down to the joys of Motoring....get it to a main dealer and get the problems checked out.

@OP, get it to a main Mazda dealer. They'll assess it for you and ascertain if the rust is a warranty job due to a manufacturing error or if it's due to poorly repaired accident damage.

A 2009 car (even if it's manufactured in 2006) has no reason to be rusty under normal circumstances.

OP i've owned 2 of the hatchbacks, both have being 05.

Both very little trouble, if its petrol the 1.4 and the 1.6 are not the most powerful and so will drink petrol a bit when on the open road, but depending on your speed.
I've the 1.4 and motorway speeds most of the time ill get about 36mpg on that is being heavy footed, i'd think.

As regards the build quality it sounds like you got shafted, not a milimetre of rust on the either of the cars i had, the one i have now has a couple of stone chips as well.

TBH i don't know why you haven't brought the car back to the dealer and said about the problems your having to fix them.

The dealer didn't over charge you, there was an end of line deal on those models and it was late 09 when the newer model started to arrive on these shores.

They are a good and reliable car. Pity about the interior plastics only fault id have.

thanks again to all who replied, I would have felt the same about mazda cars in general, we have had a few in the family and my first car was one, it was brillant!

that why I was annoyed I suppose about the small problems with this one, I have contacted dealer and booked it in for a complete once over again, last time this was done, dealer wasn't interested but will be slightly more persistent this time!
it is a pity, cause madza are reliable cars, and this is the only one we have ever had a problem with!
