Windows Live Mail. GRRRRRR!

I've installed Windows 7 on an iMac, and was shocked to see that Outlook Express isn't there (I'm coming from XP land).

The WLM program is a disaster compared to 0E6. Way too cluttered and confusing.

I'm considering buying Outlook 2007 to overcome it, but can anyone tell me if OE6 mailboxes (.dbx) can be imported into OE?

    Thanks.

    Freddie.

I'll be honest, I wouldn't particularly recommend buying Office 2007/2010 if you're only after Outlook - aside from anything else, there's already a significant difference between the functionality of Outlook Express/Windows Live Mail (home/consumer users) and Outlook (corporate/office users).

You may want to consider switching to Thunderbird - there's a Mozilla support article here describing how to import Outlook Express mailboxes & profiles into Thunderbird.

Thanks for that. The two links for the file converters are invalid in that article though.

They are indeed. However, a quick search on google shows that there's a Sourceforge project called mbx2mbox that may be able to help you....

You could just save yourself some dough, and plenty of hassle by using a web based client such as gmail, or a standalone client like alpine?

Evolution is a great Outlook replacement: http://www.dipconsultants.com/evolution/
