According to this thread, it appears to play the national anthem a lot more than other places.

Nope. But it's definitely more backwards.

Please dont judge us by Longford and Offaly's standards.. 1980 is just around the corner for them, i'll warn them about the building boom/ celtic tiger in about 17 years

    American midlands- patriotic, stupid
    Irish midlands- patriotic, stupid

Clearly the sea washes away national pride and ignorance.

It also causes its inhabitants to make outlandish generalisations.

    Pow.

outside the north It had one of the highest levels of republician activity during the troubles. not that that is a measure of patriotism but does give an indication of the mindset.

I have seen far more "thiochfaidh ar La" tattoos in North Dublin and Louth than anywhere else in the country... Btw my apologies for my terrible spelling as gaeilge... I was a pass student ;)

One of the many skanger symbols, along with Celtic jerseys, moustaches & gold jewellery. It's not patriotism, it's just a poor sense of fashion.

It always makes me laugh when people from outside dublin lecture me on how they would have handled the brits "would" being the key word there dublin was one of the most occupied areas it was from here that the war was fought. a few republicans who play the national anthem in a bar at the end of the night hardly sums up the peak of irish nationalism.

Yeah point taken. But I don't particularly think the midlands is any more patriotic than anywhere else. If anything I think that some of the little traditions are just held on to slightly longer down the country. The national anthem, in most places that play it, is just the background music to the desperate and ugly trying frantically to get that ride!

Not even the midlanders, judging by the state of it.

This will turn into a "Somewhere Vrs Dublin thread" or a "who dislikes the Brits more" extravaganza.

OP, it you really feel it should stay open, PM a good reason.
