A group of us are thinking of going on a camping trip for a night somewhere but the camping site prices are insane ! Is there any where we could camp for free ?

We were thinking of going to Roundwood but it was 80e and its completely floodlit throughout the night ... we want the full camping experience , sleeping under the stars . Also there is strickly no talking after 11 , which wouldnt really suit us at all .

So any suggestions would be brilliant ! :)

If you have exp camping you could just head up to the hills and camp around a forest somewhere in middle of no where! tho if you do plan to do this there is 2 import things to note

    1. Forests get cut down so keep that in mind if you looking at a map when planning something.
    2. Tell someone where you are/will be encase something happens, this way you can be found easy if needs be.

It's my first time camping but I think others have some experience (i'm organising the trip)

Thanks for the advice :) Didnt think about a forest getting cut down :L

I was thinking of staying in the Wicklow National Park , I read the rules to follow on the site and they seem reasonable ... Could you / anyone suggest a good area of the park , or are we better off just finding somewhere ?

    Thanks again :)

people often camp along the river between Crone Wood and Knockree, part of the Wicklow Way. Make sure you Leave No Trace though, abandoned tents and other rubbish left lying around is a real pain for everyone else.

Glenmalure seems popular; the area by the river after the ford at Baravore in particular is a fantastic, if perhaps a bit abused, location. I haven’t camped myself, though :o, so this is just an observation.
