    Guys,

We have lost the key to our patio sliding door and it is locked shut. Anyone got any ideas on how I can do a DIY job to change the lock?

    Cheers,

    Brian

Drilling the lock where the key goes in will break the barrel depending on the lock installed. Once you do this you can replace the lock by removing the screw that holds the barrel in place.

Just take off the handles the grip the bit of the lock sticking out with a vice grip an twist it hard the lock will snap in half where the screw goes,
take out both halves and fit the new one 10 Min's and no damage done

... also when fitting the new lock fit one that is narrower than the door so that some crim cannot do the same with a pair of vice grips, this is their most common method of gaining entry to the house...
