    Guys

I have a pair of motorolla xtr 446 radios with small boom type headsets and 2.5mm plug.

Can i get a push to talk adapter for these. Its a pain to keep the talk button accessible all the time and vox isnt great. Id rather keep the radio of our of way and have a button somewhere handy.

New headsets with ptt are also an option.
Stick in a few links if you have any info.

    Thanks

Hey Mal , I have just seen a 2 pin to 1 (2.5) pin adapter on maplins web site. This should take the bowman head set and fit your 1 pin radio.

    have a look here;

    http://www.ebairsoft.com/element-military-standard-plug-version-p-2593.html

    http://www.ebairsoft.com/element-ex114-tactical-military-standard-plug-version-p-2592.html

    http://www.ebairsoft.com/element-peltor-ex112-adaptor-military-standard-p-2546.html

there is an option on a drop down for motorola one pin, i assume thats you, i've got one of each of them so far and the last one i find easiest to use, they are all stanard military connections (one big headphone pin) where a headset goes in so leaves the options open

the first one i found kinda fidely to get at, there is a clip on the back (perfect size for MOLLE loops)so you kinda had to feel for it.

The second on the (the big round one) was great, its velcro backed and come with a similar clip to the first one on another piece of velcro so it works the same way.

The reason i like the last one the cables all go into the unit, the two have about 2-3 inchs of cable with the socket on the end.

I'd buy the round one and the peltor type one again in the morning.

Lochdara - avoid, avoid, avoid the Peltor one (third link Tony posted). I've had one and it never worked and I know at least 3 other lads who've had trouble with these.
I've used both the first and second ones Tony linked. First one (the element with the small ptt button - U94) was grand and lasted a fair bit, but went eventually (I blame crawling around the woods on my stomach, and airsoft as well :D). The second one (big round button - ex144) is the best imho. The button is big and solid and recessed in the ptt box - meaning that you can't trip it by accident when lying on the ground, as you can with the first one. Also it's solid as a rock and though I've only had it a short while it seems much more solid.

Just be careful that the one you get uses the right ptt box to headset connection (it's usually the military plug type or that other connection that's a bit like an old audio cable with 6 internal pins - pardon my lack of jargon, I'm sure there's a correct name for this two!).

Best of luck with the search.

Not sure of the actual pin type. Its 2.0-2.5mm thick and 13 mm long with gold plating.

Pin type - ok - is this the pin to your radio (i.e radio to ptt) or pin from your radio to the ptt?

I know that you can get 2.5 and 3.5 mm pins to fit the radio (i.e. from the ptt) - 3.5 is the same size as most walkman headphone pins - just so you can gauge the difference.

As for the pin from your headset to the ptt box, I'm not sure - I've only ever seen the military plug and 'audio cable' types. Mil plugs look like beefier versions of headphone plugs (i.e. the large type you see that connect to hifi seperates/amplifiers).

yeah i persume there the 6mm socket then. So I will need a 2.5m to 6mm adapter then maybe.

I might order one anyway and see how it goes.

Keep the ideas coming in though.

    Thanks
