1j Limit relationship with BB weight

Something I have never experimented with so far is trying
different weights of BB's in my airsoft guns.

Something that has being playing on my mind was that
some people tend to use a heavier than standard (if .20g is standard) in their GBB pistols and rifles.

I would like to know what the Optimal weight of ammo
that can be used in Ireland with a 1j power limit.
Go heavy you lose range, but there is less effect from wind
go light and you may have greater range but less accuracy.

    With 1j limit in mind:
What is the perfect weight for an average days skirmish.
What is the perfect weight for a Sniper Role
What is the perfect weight for a CQB Role
What is the perfect weight for Open Field Role
What is the perfect weight from back yard plinking

    You can get 0.8g 6mm BB's but with a 1j power limits
would these just dribble out of the barrell and be completly useless In Ireland for practical use.

On a weight scale if you only had ONE choice
anywhere between .12 and .8 what would you pick ?

Note: For myself personally I am always on the lookout for the Ultimate in Airsoft Equipment that could be
used for consistant back yard casual target shooting. I would love to own an airsoft gun that could
fire a BB that would hit the same spot consistantly. Such a device could mean the employment of
glass or even metal BB's such as http://begadishop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_378&products_id=4568&osCsid=e33c7f966fca1f09aea0c723ea6934f7
OK for shooting paper targets but not at a human being while skirmishing.

a heavier bb does not always mean less range it just means that it gets there a little slower (.20 .23 .25 area )

personal .23g or 25g for aeg and .28g or .30g for springers at 1j but a lot of it is personal preference

For general use, I've alternated between .23 and .25 and found .25 to be somewhat optimal. .2 are kind of useless at range, even the slightest breeze destroys your accuracy.

.28 seems to be the most popular sniper round, although .3 I've seen quite a bit too.

had a lot of debate down at the cork site with people between .20 and .25 as people did not see the benefit of .05g increase but when you look at it, it is a 25% increase in weight

Ye guys have more experiance than me on the field
what would ye consider the upper limit in weight that
ye would Not go past with regards to pracitcal playability
if you ignore the fact that heavier weight BB's cost more. ?

For a gun firing close to the limit, 0.25g is a dream.... weaker guns like stock TM are better on 0.2g.

I wouldn't use any heavier unless the gun was doing 350+ which is well over the limits both north and south of the Border so ye needn't worry about it...

I haven't used above .25 so can't comment. I might try .28 sometime and see.

have used .28g before as i had run out of everything else, you can gain some excellent accuracy with .28g but you do really start to notice the drop in speed, you can get away with this a lot of the time with sniper ( springers ) as the style of play offsets this, .25g would have to the upper limit

From about 90/95 feet on a 0.25 will be travelling faster then a 0.2 from the same gun. Add the fact that their less effected by wind, much more accurate, hit harder, are far better at cutting through brush and give you a better effectiverange... they realy are superior. 0.2's might have the advantage of reaching the target quicker at sub 90 feet range but thats about it. I havent used anything less then 0.23's in any of my guns since the old H.R.T.A

0.28's can fly beutifully but slow, just depends on the setup. I use them in my foam filled Aug a3 dmr but wouldnt advise them for general bb hoses, its not to hard to duck/dodge 0.28's when you can hear the shots :p

If your using the same aeg and going between .20 and .25 there is no way the .25 are going to fly faster it was deify physics, it's why a joule is 328 with .20 and around 300 - 310 fps with .20

They slow down much faster than 0.25's so at 90 feet or there abouts they actually travel at the same speed, the 0.25s travel faster from then on, all to do with momentum and resistance or something. tis complex stuff alright.

Sorry I see what you where saying know, the speed of the bb down range is a very subjective thing I had not given much thought to energy loss as it travel , the effect of gravity mass speed hop and everything else on the termal ballistics of a 6mm plastic bb could make an interesting paper for someone

    and

I generally use .23 and .25, any heavier is wasted with a 1 Joule power limit, and they have just a little bit better consistency than .20

Edit; also http://mackila.com/airsoft/ATP/ makes for interesting reading.

This is the only graph i can find about it, i think the old acmgames forum or some other had seperate tests and graphs that explained it as well. Physics aint fun, but ill read that paper when you finish it :p

pistols i use .3s as per kd's investigations
dmr and rifle use i use .25s

and for the support guns i use .2s they fly faster and they don't need to be as accurate

when i carry the sasw i also carry a mp5k with .3s in it for woodland as it has great penetration
